UK Institutions Encouraged to Partner with Ashoka for Interdisciplinary Learning

Ashoka University Strengthens International Ties with Student Exchange Initiative

India’s higher education sector is steadily gaining global prominence, as more international universities seek academic partnerships and exchange opportunities within the country. This growing interest underscores the enduring strength of India’s academic framework, known for its rigorous standards, rich intellectual tradition, and commitment to interdisciplinary learning. In this context, Ashoka University, one of India’s premier Liberal Arts and Sciences institutions located in the Delhi NCR region, has extended an invitation to UK students and universities through its Visiting Student Programme (VSP). Ashoka is renowned for offering world-class interdisciplinary education led by internationally acclaimed faculty, with a strong focus on foundational knowledge, research excellence, and real-world application.

The VSP is open to students from both partner and non-partner institutions globally and aims to facilitate meaningful academic and cultural exchange. It offers flexible options, including a summer course, research placement, semester, or full academic year, allowing students to tailor their academic experience to their interests and goals. The summer course, held from July to August, runs for six weeks and allows undergraduate students to take up to two four-credit courses. Concurrently, the Ashoka International Summer Research Programme (AISRP), offered from June to August, provides undergraduate and master’s students with an opportunity to engage in 8–10 weeks of interdisciplinary research under faculty supervision. While the research programme does not award academic credit, participants receive a certificate upon completion.

To be eligible for the Visiting Students Programme (VSP), applicants must meet several criteria. Instruction is delivered entirely in English. Candidates must be full-time students at their home university and have finished at least one year of study by the programme's start. A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) is also required. Furthermore, the applicant's home institution must approve the transfer of Ashoka's course credits towards their degree.

Deadlines for nominations and applications vary depending on the specific program. For the Summer Course, nominations are due by November 1, 2025, and applications must be submitted by May 15, 2026. For the Summer Research program, the nomination deadline is October 1, 2025, with applications due by May 1, 2026. For semester programs, nominations for the Fall (Monsoon) Semester or the full academic year are required by March 1, 2026. Nominations for the Spring Semester are due by September 1, 2025. The corresponding application deadlines are May 31, 2026, and November 1, 2025, respectively.

The academic load for summer includes one or two four-credit courses (each equivalent to 7.5 ECTS and 40 contact hours). Semester students may take four such courses (totalling 30 ECTS), along with an optional two-credit co-curricular course in areas such as performing arts, visual arts, or languages. Fees for the Summer Course are USD 4,713 for two courses or USD 3,195 for one course. Summer Research is USD 4,249. Semester participation costs USD 9,774 per term and includes tuition, accommodation, a meal plan, and campus facilities. Students from partner institutions qualify for tuition fee waivers. Ashoka University encourages interested institutions to explore partnership possibilities or nominate students by contacting: globaleducation@ashoka.edu.in. This initiative showcases Ashoka’s commitment to internationalisation and reflects India’s expanding role as a hub for global academic exchange and collaborative learning.

Editor’s Note:

Ashoka University’s Visiting Student Programme (VSP) is a great example of how Indian higher education is becoming more global and forward-looking. By inviting UK students and universities to take part, Ashoka is showing that Indian institutions are ready to offer world-class learning experiences. This move also highlights how much Indian education has improved in terms of quality, research, and international collaboration. As more international students choose to study in India, it helps raise the global profile of Indian universities and proves that they can compete with top institutions around the world. At the same time, the programme opens doors for students and universities abroad. With flexible options like summer courses, research placements, and semester exchanges, students get the chance to study in a diverse and rich academic setting while experiencing Indian culture. This kind of international exchange helps build stronger global ties, encourages fresh ideas, and benefits both Indian and foreign students.

Skoobuzz notes that Ashoka University’s initiative represents more than a progressive move for its campus; it signifies a substantial advancement for Indian higher education at large.
