Assam Gears Up for Khelo India University Games 2023

Khelo India University Games 2023: Grand Inauguration Marks the Commencement of Prestigious Sporting Event in Assam

Assam has always stepped up in developing sports infrastructure that caters to all the eight North Eastern states. This is in addition to their various schemes to support elite athletes. The Khelo India University Games (KIUG) 2023 will be held across the seven states from February 19-29. This step will aid in spreading the sports culture as well as provide opportunities for future stars to showcase their skills. The Assam government wants the state to become a preferred global destination for sports events and training. They are planning on building three National Centres of Excellence and the upgradation of the stadiums is already underway.

There has been a recent introduction of a High-Performance Sports Training and Rehabilitation Centre at the Sarusajai Sports Complex and a similar one in Jorhat. Both are bold statements regarding the state’s focus on providing advanced sports training and rehabilitation for the athletes. There has been another proposal to set up a high-performance center in Kokrajhar.  The centers have state-of-the-art facilities along with advanced sports technology. These will cater to the needs of the athletes from the state as well as the whole region.

The main objective of the performance center is to support the athletes by providing scientific assessments, physiotherapy, and rehab services. They will focus on conditioning and training the athletes to ensure their mental and physical well-being. This will be done through the utilization of advanced equipment for data-driven assessment and training. Specialized labs, such as Motion Analysis Lab, Gait and Biomechanics Lab, Para-Athletes Performance Lab, Biomechanics, and Postural Lab, are also present at the centers.

The government has proposed to upgrade the Nehru stadium to an Olympic-level football stadium. It was the only multiple-purpose stadium until the Sarusajai Sports Complex was built. The Chief Minister has announced that they have created another multi-purpose stadium in Amingaon and Chandrapur with adequate facilities for player’s hostels and other things.

The National Centre of Excellence in Guwahati has 24 badminton courts, designed to meet the rigorous training needs of 60 athletes in phase 1. The center features a 4000 sq ft gymnasium with modern fitness equipment, a 60-bed hostel for players, a yoga center, and a dedicated 2000 sq ft physiotherapy center.

The center spreads over an area of 40,000 sq ft and is a significant milestone for Indian badminton. It has redefined badminton training and empowers the country’s glorious future in the sport. The event serves as a platform for budding athletes to showcase their skills and compete at the highest level, fostering a culture of sports excellence and camaraderie.

Editor’s note:

Sports events allow us to witness remarkable sportsmanship, a thriving sense of community, and a culmination of the combined efforts of the sportsmen, coaches, and organizers. It is appreciable to watch Assam emerge as a state known to promote sporting champions through these events, initiatives like establishing High-performance sports training and rehabilitation centers, and the international standard sporting infrastructure it has built over the years.

Skoobuzz commends the efforts of everyone involved in making the Khelo India University Games a success and promoting, and encouraging these young talented sportsmen to go after their dreams and pave the way for the younger generation of athletes and a brighter future for Indian sportsmen.
