Arizona State University (ASU) is enhancing its presence in India by forming partnerships with local universities and considering the establishment of an advanced, AI-enhanced "agentic" university in the country. University President Michael M. Crow, during a visit to New Delhi, announced the partnership with two of these institutions and outlined plans to collaborate with up to ten universities. This initiative will offer Indian students dual-degree programs and advanced digital learning resources. In this strategic move, ASU has already entered into partnerships with five Indian universities: Chitkara University (Punjab), Shiv Nadar University (Greater Noida), Anurag University (Hyderabad), RV University (Bengaluru), and an engineering college in Chennai.
ASU President Michael M. Crow, during a visit to New Delhi, announced partnerships with two Indian universities and plans to expand to up to ten institutions, offering dual-degree programs and digital learning resources. He also noted that ASU is exploring the creation of an AI-enhanced "agentic" university in India, leveraging advanced educational technologies developed over the past 15 years, in light of India’s new education policies allowing foreign campuses. While ASU has not confirmed plans for a standalone campus in India, President Michael M. Crow emphasized the university's commitment to expanding through innovation and technology-driven learning. He noted that India is ASU’s largest source of international students, with nearly 7,000 enrolled at its US campus and thousands more at ASU-affiliated centres in India.
Crow highlighted that students at ASU’s Indian partner institutions have access to advanced digital learning platforms, innovative teaching methods, and tools like intelligent tutoring systems for STEM education. The curriculum, tailored for local contexts, aligns with global academic standards. He emphasized ASU's commitment to providing high-performing Indian students with world-class education at an affordable cost and facilitating smooth transitions to ASU in the US. Crow also stressed the need for a diverse and flexible education system that integrates theoretical knowledge with practical application.
Crow emphasized that in the US, all students, regardless of discipline, must take courses in history, politics, and arts, ensuring a well-rounded education that prepares them for societal and technological changes. He acknowledged India's remarkable progress in education over the past 75 years while highlighting the need for greater research output and innovation. Crow reaffirmed ASU's commitment to strengthening ties between India and the US, noting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's focus on education and technology-driven development.
As the world’s two largest democracies, India and the US are natural partners in education and innovation.
