Chandigarh University: A Hub of Innovation with Over 2,600 Patents Filed and Global Academic Collaborations

Chandigarh University is an NAAC A+ Grade institution and an autonomous educational body approved by the UGC. It is the youngest university in India and the only private university in Punjab to receive an A+ Grade from NAAC. The university offers over 109 undergraduate and postgraduate programs across various fields, including engineering, management, pharmacy, law, architecture, journalism, animation, and hotel management. It has also been recognized as "The University with Best Placements" by WCRC. The University is ranked among India’s top 20 universities in the NIRF Rankings 2024. This University is ready to host the 4th Global Education Summit ( GES) 2024 from October 3 to 5, with the theme “ Sustainable and Equitable Education”. The summit will feature 60 distinguished academic leaders from 50 top-ranked foreign universities across 30 countries.
Deepinder Singh Sandhu, Senior Director of Chandigarh University, announced that Nobel laureate in Physics, Professor Gerardus 't Hooft, will inaugurate the event. He is recognized for his contributions to the quantum structure of electroweak interactions and has taught at institutions like Harvard, SLAC, and Caltech., awarded many prizes as the Dannie Heineman Prize, Honorary Doctorate of Science from the University of Chicago, Wolf Prize of the State of Israel, Pius XI Medal (Vatican), and Lorentz Medal (KNAW, Amsterdam). Other notable guests include Thirapath Mongkolnavin, Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission at the Royal Thai Embassy in New Delhi, and Josel F. Ignacio, Ambassador-Designate of the Philippines.
The summit aimed to foster collaboration in line with India’s New Education Policy, promoting innovations and joint research projects among leading institutions. This event will provide a platform for 55 universities' global academicians to share ideas and create a roadmap for future educational initiatives. The university will sign Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with foreign universities during the upcoming 4th Global Education Summit, focusing on joint research, academic collaborations, and student exchange programs.
The summit will provide a platform for academic leaders to engage in discussions, build strategic alliances, and enhance the quality and accessibility of education worldwide.
The three-day summit will focus on several key issues, including customized models for empowering students in sustainable development, the role of universities in fostering empathy, women's empowerment, and social engagement, as well as repositioning universities to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) using local technologies and manpower. Other topics will include global collaboration to enhance sustainability through research and innovation and engaging national governments to leverage innovative technologies for social welfare.
Around 60 academic leaders, including Presidents, Vice Chancellors, and Rectors from 50 top-ranked foreign universities across more than 30 countries, will participate both in person and online. Countries represented will include the United States, United Kingdom, France, Canada, Australia, and several others from regions such as Asia, Europe, and Africa. The first day of the summit will focus on "Global collaboration for enhancing sustainability through research and innovation" in its opening session, followed by a discussion on “Engaging with national governments towards the use of innovative technologies for social welfare.” On the second day, sessions will include "Customized models to empower students for sustainable Development," the "Role of universities in promoting empathy, women empowerment, and social engagement," and conclude with "Repositioning universities for the achievements of SDGs with local Technologies and manpower."
Chandigarh University is a research-intensive institution, it has a policy of inviting Nobel laureates who are also active educators and researchers. By this students gain valuable insights and learn directly from influential figures whose work has significantly impacted various fields. The university was recently visited by 9 Nobel laureates from various fields including Prof. Muhammad Yunus, the interim chief of Bangladesh's government and 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner for his work in microcredit, and the Dalai Lama, who received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989. The other visiting laureates were Sir Michel Mayor, 2019 Nobel Prize winner in Physics; Wole Soyinka, the first Black African Nobel Prize winner in Literature (1986); Roger D. Kornberg, Nobel laureate in Chemistry (2006); Prof. Jean-Marie Lehn, Nobel Prize in Chemistry (1987); Prof. John C. Mather, Nobel laureate in Physics (2006); Richard John Roberts, Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine (1993); and Prof. Leland H. Hartwell, Nobel laureate in Physiology or Medicine (2001).

It has filed over 2,600 patents, making it the second-highest institution in India for patent filings. This University has become the first university in India to establish 502 partnerships with top-ranked international universities in popular study-abroad destinations, aimed at providing students with international exposure and enhancing their employment opportunities.
