Cornell Tech Hosts Series of Events Highlighting Cutting-Edge Research and Startups

Cornell Tech has announced a series of events throughout May designed to celebrate its vibrant campus culture and deep commitment to innovation. The institution emphasised that the lineup would feature startup pitches, design exhibitions, panel discussions, and a special tour in collaboration with NYCxDESIGN. These events aim to spotlight the pioneering work of both students and faculty.

A key highlight of the series will be the 13th annual Startup Awards + Open Studio event, scheduled for May 16. During this event, up to five student teams will be recognised, each receiving a $100,000 investment award, along with access to studio space and ongoing mentorship on campus. Since the awards' inception in 2015, 42 student teams have received this prestigious recognition, marking a strong tradition of supporting entrepreneurial excellence.

Greg Morrisett, the Jack and Rilla Neafsey Dean and Vice Provost at Cornell Tech, expressed his enthusiasm for welcoming guests from around the city and across the globe. He noted that each event would provide visitors with a firsthand look at the innovative work taking place on campus and assured that attendees would leave both impressed and inspired by Cornell Tech’s dynamic and collaborative environment.

Adding to the prestige of the Startup Awards, Cornell alumnus Andrew Ross Sorkin—a columnist for The New York Times, author, producer, and co-anchor of CNBC’s Squawk Box—will serve as a jury member. He is set to participate in the selection and announcement of the winning teams, underscoring the event’s significance within the entrepreneurial and tech communities. Through this series of events, Cornell Tech seeks to further solidify its standing as a hub of innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration. The institution affirmed that the celebrations are not only meant to showcase talent but also to inspire attendees and highlight Cornell Tech’s growing influence on industries shaping the future.

Editor’s Note:

The month-long event series at Cornell Tech underscores the institution’s evolving role as a leader in innovation, technology, and interdisciplinary education. As the boundaries between academia and industry continue to blur, Cornell Tech stands out for its ability to foster real-world solutions through collaborative design, startup incubation, and forward-thinking research. This celebration not only highlights the achievements of its students and faculty but also reflects the broader impact the institution is making on New York City’s innovation economy and beyond.

Skoobuzz believes that as the event unfolds, it will serve as a powerful demonstration of how academic institutions can act as engines of transformation in rapidly changing industries. With its unique integration of technology, business, and design, Cornell Tech is well-positioned to influence the future of urban innovation.
