CSU Direct Admission Program Aims to Support First-Generation and Low-Income Students

The California State University system has launched a new pilot program that offers direct admission to thousands of students in Riverside County. This initiative streamlines the application process for approximately 12,000 eligible high school seniors, allowing them to apply for free to several campuses across the state, from Humboldt to San Bernardino. The system aims to assist students who face challenges, such as being the first in their families to attend college or coming from modest-income backgrounds.

The following ten schools are participating in the partnership with the Riverside County Office of Education: CSU Channel Islands, Chico State, Cal State East Bay, Cal Poly Humboldt, Cal Maritime, Cal State Monterey Bay, Cal State San Bernardino, CSU San Marcos, San Francisco State, and Sonoma State. This collaboration aims to enhance access to higher education for eligible students in Riverside County. Students who receive a brochure in the mail can visit CaliforniaColleges.edu to apply to any of the ten participating universities. The application process does not require essays, letters of recommendation, or portfolios.

To claim the free application, students should enter the coupon code provided in the brochure mailed by the university system. CSU officials noted that admission could be rescinded if students do not meet the outlined minimum requirements. While the offer includes one free application, students have the option to apply to any of the 23 schools within the CSU system. Additionally, students who have already applied to a CSU school will not receive a refund if they did not use the coupon code.
