India is set to host its first-ever international Padel tournament, the CUPRA FIP Tour. The FIP Promotion India Padel Open is taking place from November 21 to 24, 2024, at Bennett University, owned by the Times Group. The tournament will feature top Indian Padel players alongside prominent international athletes from Spain, Japan, the Netherlands, France, Italy, and Iran. Organized by The Times Group, India’s leading media company, and Padel League Private Limited, a subsidiary of PTL Sports Group, the event is sanctioned by the International Padel Federation (FIP) marking it a significant milestone as the first international tournament sanctioned by FIP in India, contributing to the growth of Padel in the country.
Padel, which originated in Mexico and gained popularity in Europe and Latin America, is experiencing rapid growth worldwide. Padel is a racket sport that combines Tennis and Squash, typically played in doubles on a smaller, enclosed court with surrounding walls. Players can use the walls to hit the ball, adding a strategic element to the game. The compact court makes it easier for beginners, while the tactical elements and wall usage offer excitement for more experienced players. In India, the sport has gained significant support, with Bangalore,
Delhi, and Mumbai emerging as major hubs for padel players and local talent. The FIP Promotion India event is expected to further boost the sport’s growth and bring it closer to mainstream recognition in the country. Pranav Kohli, Director of Padel League Private Ltd., emphasized that Padel had gained immense global popularity and, with the support of FIP, he expected it to become a leading sport in India. He expressed his excitement for the first-ever FIP Promotion event in India, which will be held at Bennett University. The semi-finals and finals of the tournament are scheduled for November 23 and 24, 2024, and will be broadcast live on The Times Group’s Zoom TV channel, with a live stream available on FIP’s platforms.
Vineet Jain, the Managing Director of The Times Group, expressed his excitement about hosting the first FIP event at Bennett University. He believes that this pioneering event will help accelerate the growth of Padel in India, attracting new players and fans to the sport. Moreover, it has the potential to become one of the leading sports in the country and to draw investment into its infrastructure and facilities. The tournament is anticipated to be a success and is expected to be the first of many such events in India.

He expressed his enthusiasm for witnessing the growth of Padel within India's sports ecosystem. According to Khanna, the tournament will offer Indian players an excellent opportunity to showcase their talent on an international stage, becoming part of the global Padel movement.
The International Padel Federation’s (FIP) decision to bring the tour to India reflects its confidence in the country's potential for Padel's growth. India was selected as the 32nd stop on the CUPRA FIP Tour, further fueling the sport’s rise in the region, where interest from athletes, enthusiasts, and investors continues to grow.
The CUPRA FIP Tour will give players the chance to compete on the international stage while helping develop a growing pool of Indian talent. This, in turn, positions India as a potential major force in the global padel community. With events like the FIP Promotion India, Indian athletes now have access to broader opportunities, which will further boost the sport’s visibility and appeal across the country.
The FIP Promotion India is part of the international Promotion Series, joining other global stops in November, such as those in Vic and Roquetas de Mar in Spain, Doha in Qatar, and Houten in the Netherlands. Through the CUPRA FIP Tour, players can earn ranking points, which can open doors to higher-level tournaments on the international circuit.
