IIE Praises Dr. Allan E. Goodman's Transformative Leadership as He Announces Retirement

Institute of International Education Seeks Successor to Dr. Allan E. Goodman

The Institute of International Education (IIE) leads international education strategies, collaborating with governments, educators, and employers worldwide to prepare students and professionals for global challenges. Supported by donors, IIE assists at-risk students, scholars, and artists, and fosters cross-cultural teaching and transformative opportunities. Founded in 1919, IIE is a non-profit with a global network and over 1,600 higher education partners.

On January 27, 2025, Dr. Allan E. Goodman announced his decision to step down as CEO of the Institute of International Education (IIE) after nearly three decades. The IIE Board of Trustees has begun a global search for his successor. Throughout his tenure, Dr. Goodman made significant contributions to international educational exchange, particularly during challenging periods such as wars, conflicts, disasters, and the pandemic. He played a key role in supporting displaced students, scholars, and artists, and successfully led IIE through its centennial celebration.

Dr. Goodman reflected on his 28 years at IIE, expressing pride in advancing peace and prosperity worldwide. He noted that collaborating to create life-changing opportunities for U.S. students and aiding displaced scholars and artists were highlights of his career. The IIE Board of Trustees praised his visionary leadership, emphasizing his dedication, foresight, and advocacy, which transformed the organization and elevated IIE’s global prominence. They highlighted his role in reinforcing the importance of education in fostering cross-cultural understanding and building international bridges.
