Nine Delhi University Students Competing for India in Paris Olympics, Doubling Tokyo Numbers

DU Celebrates as Nine Students Join Indian Contingent for Paris Olympics

Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh said that nine Delhi University students will be competing for India in the Paris Olympics. The number this year is more than double, compared to 4 from the Tokyo Olympics. Eleven of the 21 Indian shooters competing in the Paris Olympics are female, and six of them are DU students the highest proportion of students from the university in any sport, according to Prof. Singh. He expressed his hope to all eight Indian table tennis players encouraging them to perform admirably and bring home medals for their nation. DU Sports Council Director Dr. Anil Kumar Kalkal said that three of the nine athletes, Manu Bhaker, Amoj Jacob, and Manika Batra, also competed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Dr. Kalkal said, "Those representing the university are Ramita Jindal, a current third-year BCom (Hons) student at Hansraj College, and Rhythm Sangwan, a second-year English (Hons) student at Lady Shri Ram College."


 

Among the former pupils, Rajeshwari Kumari was a BA student at Sri Venkateswara College in 2010, Manu Bhaker finished her political science (Hons) at Lady Shri Ram College in 2022, Maheshwari Chauhan completed her philosophy (Hons) at Lady Shri Ram College in 2017, and Shreyasi Singh graduated from Hansraj College in 2012. Dr. Kalkal continued, "Manika Batra was a sociology (Hons) student at Jesus and Mary College in 2016 when she played table tennis." Between 2016 and 2019, Amoj Jacob earned a BCom from Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College. He will compete in the 4x400-metre relay. In addition, Sri Aurobindo College was the school of Jaspal Rana, who represented India at the Olympics as Manu Bhaker's coach.
