Educators Invited to Explore Global Languages Through Duolingo’s Gamified Competition
New Regional Challenge Encourages Language Learning in the International Education Sector
Jul 15, 2025 |
As part of its continued effort to foster community engagement and promote multilingual learning, Duolingo has launched the Duolingo Language Challenge, a 10-week initiative aimed at celebrating linguistic diversity and enhancing collaboration across the international education sector in Australia and New Zealand. The programme reflects Duolingo’s commitment to accessible, gamified learning and seeks to unite educators and institutional staff in a collective pursuit of language proficiency.
Scheduled to run from 28 July to 6 October 2025, the challenge is open to employees of CRICOS-registered institutions in Australia and NZQA-accredited providers in New Zealand. Participants are required to use the Duolingo app via a free SUPER Duolingo account to monitor progress, reach milestones, and ascend the regional leaderboard. In addition to weekly prizes, the initiative features a charitable prize pool and will culminate in a celebration at the Australian International Education Conference (AIEC) in Canberra.
While hosted by the Duolingo English Test, the challenge allows participants to choose from an array of languages, including Spanish, Japanese, Swahili, and Hawaiian. Weekly email updates will spotlight top performers, share interesting language facts, and highlight standout profiles. Participants will also have the opportunity to win exclusive merchandise and compete for a share of an $8,000 charity prize fund.
Outstanding individuals and institutions, together with weekly winners, will be honoured at the awards ceremony during AIEC in Canberra on 15 October. The event will include certificate presentations and provide valuable networking opportunities for members of the international education community. Registrations for weekly prizes will close on 31 August, with final winners announced when the leaderboard locks on 6 October. The Duolingo Language Challenge offers a dynamic platform for educators to celebrate language learning, foster community spirit, and explore new cultural connections.
Editor’s Note:
The Duolingo Language Challenge is a thoughtful and timely initiative that brings together education, community engagement, and cross-cultural understanding in a dynamic and accessible way. Aimed at educators and institutional staff across Australia and New Zealand, the challenge reflects the growing importance of multilingual skills in an interconnected world. It not only promotes language learning through a fun, gamified platform but also encourages collaboration and charitable impact within the international education sector. What makes this initiative especially meaningful is its holistic approach, rewarding personal progress, recognising weekly achievements, supporting good causes, and culminating in a celebration at a major industry event. It offers participants a chance to improve their skills, strengthen professional ties, and contribute to a larger goal of global unity through education.
Skoobuzz asserts that the Duolingo Language Challenge is more than a competition; it’s a celebration of shared learning, inclusivity, and the power of language to connect people and communities across borders.
