Unique Opportunity for K-8 Students to Display Artwork Inspired by Empire State Plaza Collection

National Youth Art Month Celebrated with K-8 Art Exhibit at Empire State Plaza

The 16th annual K-8 Empire State Plaza Art Collection Exhibit is now open for viewing, showcasing over 1,100 pieces of artwork from 17 local school districts, including the City School District of Albany. The exhibit, located on the South Concourse near the Madison Avenue entrance, features contributions from all three middle schools and 12 elementary schools in the district. The artwork will be available for viewing until March 23.

An opening reception is scheduled for March 13 at 5:30 p.m., with keynote speaker Jade Warrick of TrashKiD Art. The K-8 exhibit is part of National Youth Art Month and is sponsored by the New York State Office of General Services, the Capital Area Art Supervisors, and the New York State Art Teachers' Association.

The exhibit draws inspiration from the Empire State Plaza Collection, which includes 92 abstract expressionist works of art located both within and around the plaza. According to Kate Wright, the City School District of Albany's Fine Arts Supervisor, this event is unique in the Capital Region as it is the only exhibition dedicated to K-8 students. She highlighted the special opportunity it provides for students to showcase how their art was influenced by the plaza's collection. This exhibit celebrates the artistic talents of young students and also emphasizes the importance of art education in the community.
