Pioneering Sustainability: IIM Bangalore's New MOOC for Future Business Leaders

Global awareness of sustainability is growing as individuals, communities, and governments recognize the importance of protecting the environment for future generations. Factors like increased media coverage of climate change, educational programs, and the influence of environmental activists contribute to this shift. These efforts are driving progress toward a more sustainable and equitable world.

In line with this, IIM Bangalore has launched its first Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), titled "From Theory to Practice: Implementing ESG and Sustainability in Business," which will be hosted on Swayam, a Government of India initiative offering free, high-quality education across various subjects. The course, which will be conducted in Hindi, is a 12-week program starting on January 24. It is designed for MBA and BBA students, working professionals, and executives interested in enhancing their understanding of sustainable growth and holistic value creation. The last date for postgraduate enrollment in this 30-hour online program is February 28. Learners who complete the 12-week program by April 30, 2025, will be eligible to take the exam, which is scheduled for May 2025.

The Swayam courses include video lectures, e-texts, self-assessments, and discussion forums. While the course is free for everyone, students can enrol for the examination by paying a nominal fee and receive a certificate upon completion. Dr. Aditya Gupta, the COO of the TCI-IIMB Supply Chain Sustainability Lab, has been appointed as the instructor for the course. Gupta, who has corporate experience with companies such as Tata Group, TVS Group, Jindal Group, Virgin Mobile, and Moser Baer, will provide students with the opportunity to interact and learn from him throughout the program. This initiative by IIM Bangalore represents a significant step towards integrating sustainability into business education. By offering accessible, high-quality courses on ESG and sustainability, it aims to empower the next generation of business leaders.
