Engineers and Entrepreneurs to Upskill in EV Tech via IIT Delhi’s New Online Programme

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has unveiled a new Postgraduate Diploma in Electric Vehicle Technology, to be delivered through its Centre for Automotive Research and Tribology (CART). Structured as a one-year online programme, the diploma is designed to equip engineers, researchers, entrepreneurs, and professionals with the specialised skills needed to support India’s transition to electric mobility. This initiative directly aligns with the government’s goal of achieving 30% EV adoption by 2030. To ensure a comprehensive understanding of the EV ecosystem, the curriculum covers battery management systems, power electronics, powertrain design, charging infrastructure, safety systems, and the use of artificial intelligence in fault diagnostics. In addition, advanced modules such as regenerative braking, EV telematics, and hybrid powertrain modelling are expected to be included, aligning the course with national standards like AIS-048 and global safety protocols such as ISO 26262.

The programme follows a blended learning model, combining IIT Delhi’s online classes with on-campus immersion modules. These in-person sessions will offer laboratory exposure and direct interaction with faculty, allowing participants to engage with real-world case studies and contribute to ongoing EV innovation projects. Learners will also benefit from access to CART’s advanced simulation tools and research facilities. As part of the academic experience, participants will undertake capstone projects, simulations, and semester-long research assignments under the supervision of IIT Delhi faculty. Upon successful completion, candidates will be awarded an official postgraduate diploma and welcomed into the institute’s alumni network. The course is delivered in collaboration with Jaro Education, which will support platform delivery, learner engagement, and accessibility—reflecting the broader shift towards digital technical education in India.

Importantly, the programme has been tailored for working professionals who wish to upskill without stepping away from their careers. Eligibility criteria include a bachelor’s degree in electrical sciences or an equivalent field, along with relevant industry experience. Diploma holders with at least three years of professional practice may also apply. Admissions will be based on academic merit and career background. Learners will be mentored by faculty members from CART, many of whom have led research collaborations with leading EV companies such as Tata Motors and Ather Energy.

The diploma is structured to prepare participants for a wide range of roles in EV design, manufacturing, research and development, charging infrastructure, fleet electrification, and policy planning. By combining core engineering principles with applied learning, the IIT Delhi online courses aim to develop both technical expertise and leadership in sustainable mobility. Graduates may pursue careers in OEMs, startups, government agencies, and sustainability consultancies, with opportunities for further specialisation through industry-recognised certifications such as ABET or ISIEINDIA.
