Situated in the scenic city of Roorkee, Uttarakhand, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee is a national leader in academic innovation and excellence and is well known for its Engineering, architecture, and applied science programs. It has 10 engineering and architectural bachelor's degree programs, along with 55 engineering, applied science, architecture, and planning master's degree programs.

 

IIT Roorkee provides an abundance of scholarships intended to encourage and honor the accomplishments of its undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) populations. Along with easing the financial burden, these grants help students focus entirely on their academic and personal development.

 

Annually, the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT R) awards scholarships to meritorious students. Scholarships are given in the form of reduced tuition costs and few are given directly to students in the form of bank account transfers. INSPIRE SHE, Dr. S.K. Goel, and Kusum Goel Scholarships are provided to underprivileged students pursuing engineering education, and the Sharman Foundation is among the scholarships offered by IIT Roorkee.


 

List of scholarships and qualifications:

 

1. Merit Cum Means Scholarship:

 

Under this scholarship, a UG student is entitled to a minimum of Rs 1,000 per month for 10 months of the academic year, coupled with a refund of the remaining tuition fee. A minimum of Rs. 1000 is awarded to an M.Sc. student each month for ten months of the academic year. This scholarship is only accessible for dual degree programs through the fourth year and during only the runtime of it. Additionally, it receives up to 25% of the class's true strength.

 

Requirements to avail MCM scholarship:

The applicant should be an OBC, General (EWS), or General category member, enrolled in JAM or JEE Advanced-admitted MSc or BTech, BArch, integrated dual degree (IDD), integrated master of technology (IMT), integrated master of science (IMS), and BS-MS programs. The applicant’s parents combined gross income cannot exceed Rs 5 Lakh, during the current academic year of the student.

A cumulative grade point average (CGPA) as well as a yearly grade point average (YGPA) need to be 7.00 or above that does not apply to new students. Applicant has not been subjected to any unjust method or any indiscipline and should clear every enrolled course. 


 

2. James Thomason Scholarship:

 

To receive JT, a student should be enrolled in the B.Tech., B.Arch., Integrated Dual Degree (IDD), Integrated Master of Technology (IMT), Integrated Master of Science (IMS), and BS-MS programs admitted through JEE (Advanced). Applicant has an All India Rank (AIR) of up to 250 in the most recent JEE (Advanced) exam. 

 

3. INSPIRE-SHE Scholarship:

 

The Inspire She Scholarship is offered by The Department of Science & Technology (DST) which sponsors and manages the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) program. Students who have achieved top 1% positions in their 12th Standard examinations or if they have a place in the eligible range of few competitive examinations as JEE 9 main), JEE (advanced), NEET (AIPMT), KVPY and secured admission in science stream ( any science course or their combination of the 18 identified subjects) at any accredited college university, or academic institution in the nation are eligible.

 

For a student to renew INSPIRE-SHE, they must meet the following requirements:

The candidate needs to be a student in the Department of Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics Integrated M.Sc. programs (years II through V). For the current assessment year, the combined gross income of the parents (father and mother or guardian) cannot exceed Rs 5 lakhs. The candidate has utilized INSPIRE SHE in the preceding year or years.

 

For a student to renew INSPIRE-SHE, they must meet the following requirements: 

First-year JEE (Advanced)-2021/Joint Admission test for Masters (JAM)-2022 candidates with an All India Rank (AIR) of up to 10,000 from the Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics departments in the BS-MS and M.Sc./Int.M.Sc. programs in the Departments of Inspire (SHE).


 

4. Dr. S.K. Goel and Mrs. Kusum Goel Scholarship:

 

This is intended to help four undergraduate students who are entering the Institute but need financial assistance with each person receiving Rs 2 lakh annually. Every year beginning in 2022, a single new qualified applicant will be chosen for this scholarship. There will be four recipients of this scholarship starting in 2025. As long as they maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 7.5 after each academic year, the chosen candidates will continue to receive this scholarship for the full four years of their program. 

 

Eligibility:  General and OBC category Students who are pursuing  B.Tech. first year and whose family income falls between Rs. 5 lakh and Rs. 6 lakh annually are eligible.


 

5. Scholarship for underprivileged students pursuing engineering education:

This scholarship is exclusively for those 2 undergraduate students who are underprivileged. The annual scholarship award of USD 1000 per recipient will be awarded to those chosen candidates for the four years of their program, as long as they maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 7.0 per year. The female will receive at least one scholarship if she fulfills the requirement.        

 

Eligibility: All B. Tech students in the OBC and General categories who are enrolled in the ⅔ tuition fee waiver program and are not receiving any other comparable scholarships are eligible for this scholarship. The institute also administers a few foundation awards, such as the Sharman Foundation Scholarship.
