Konyang University Strengthens Global Focus with New International College

International Student Programs Unified Under Konyang University’s New College

Konyang University, founded in 1991, is a private institution offering diverse programs in fields such as Western medicine, medical technology, and nursing. Serving over 10,000 undergraduate and 700 graduate students, it is known for fostering industry-university cooperation and implementing innovative initiatives like the e-portfolio system. Accredited by the Korean Council for University Education, Konyang continues to attract students globally.

On April 28, Konyang University announced that it had consolidated its international student-exclusive undergraduate programs under a newly established entity, the International College. The university had amended its regulations on April 9 to formally create the college and subsequently reorganised three departments—the Department of K-Culture Industry, the Department of International Medical Tourism, and the Department of International Military Science and Art—under its administration.

Previously, these departments operated separately under different colleges. The university brought them together under the new International College to improve program management and offer more tailored support services for international students. University officials explained that the restructuring was intended to enhance administrative efficiency and better meet the academic and cultural needs of international students. Lee Geul-jae, dean of the Department of International Medical Tourism, stated that the newly formed college, along with its specialised departments, would provide an excellent learning environment and help students grow into top talent in their respective fields.

The Department of K-Culture Industry offered instruction in Korean, focusing on the Korean language and culture. In contrast, the Departments of International Medical Tourism and International Military Science and Art were taught in English and covered topics such as the medical service industry and military theory with an emphasis on the defence sector. The creation of the International College marks a strategic step by Konyang University to strengthen its global engagement and better serve its growing international student community.

Editor’s Note:

Konyang University’s establishment of the International College shows its active efforts to adapt higher education to the changing needs of international students. By bringing key departments together under one college, the university is improving academic management and strengthening its support for international students. This step also reflects a wider trend in Korean universities toward greater internationalisation and student-focused education.

According to Skoobuzz, as universities around the world work to stay competitive and inclusive, Konyang’s move stands out as a good example of thoughtful planning and innovation. With a wide range of academic programs, strong partnerships with industry, and a focus on modern learning tools, Konyang University is becoming a leader in international education. This shows that flexibility and clear vision are important for success in today’s global education environment.
