MAHE Manipal to Showcase Top National Talent in Women’s Tennis Tournaments This December

South Zone and All India Women’s Tennis Tournaments to be Held at MAHE Manipal’s World-Class Facilities

The tennis courts at Manipal Academy of Higher Education, MIT, KMC, and Marena will host two major women’s tennis events this December. The South Zone Inter-University tournament will be held from December 7 to 10, followed by the All-India Inter-Zone tournament from December 13 to 16. The South Zone tournament will feature intense competition as top universities compete for a spot in the All-India event, showcasing the best teams from the zonal tournaments, making it a must-watch for tennis fans. MIT, KMC, and Marena offer world-class facilities with six synthetic courts—two at each location to host the tournaments. Players, managers, coaches, and officials will be accommodated at the MAHE guest house and hostels for a comfortable stay. Dr. H.S. Ballal, Pro-Chancellor of MAHE, emphasized during a press conference on December 4 that MAHE is committed to promoting sports, nurturing young talent, and empowering women in sports while fostering healthy competition.

Lieutenant General Dr. M D Venkatesh, VSM, Vice-Chancellor of MAHE, expressed pride in hosting the events, highlighting MAHE's commitment to sports and holistic development. He looked forward to witnessing the skill and sportsmanship of athletes nationwide, noting that tennis is one of the most popular and richest sports globally, with top national-level women players participating. Dr. Narayana Sabhahit, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Technology & Science) of MAHE, stressed that sports are vital to academic life, promoting discipline, teamwork, and leadership. He reaffirmed MAHE's dedication to providing platforms for young athletes to excel and inspire others.

Dr. Sharath Rao, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Health Sciences) of MAHE Manipal, noted that the tournaments celebrate athletic excellence and highlight the importance of balancing academics with sports, inspiring young athletes to pursue their dreams. He also mentioned that MAHE hosted the South Zone Women's Cricket Tournament in 2023 and is now hosting both the South Zone Women's Tennis Tournament and the All-India tournament, with 16 teams from across the country and 38 teams from the South Zone participating. Dr. Raviraja N Seetharam, Chief Operating Officer (Operations) at MAHE Manipal, emphasized that the university’s state-of-the-art facilities and strong organizational support would ensure a seamless experience for participants and spectators. He also highlighted that the events provide an excellent platform for athletes to showcase their talent while fostering teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship. With MAHE Manipal’s reputation for hosting high-caliber sporting events, he said the stage was set for an exciting celebration of women’s tennis.

Dr. P Giridhar Kini, Registrar of MAHE Manipal, remarked that the tournaments offer a platform to showcase talent and demonstrate sportsmanship and camaraderie. He emphasized MAHE's commitment to creating a supportive environment for such events to thrive. The upcoming women’s tennis tournaments at MAHE will be a huge success.
