NASA Space Apps Challenge 2024 Sparks Innovation at VIT University-AP
Over 200 Students Collaborate to Solve Real-World Challenges in a 48-Hour Hackathon

NASA Space Apps Challenge 2024 is an international hackathon that brings together programmers, scientists, designers, storytellers, makers, technologists, and innovators worldwide. These innovative minds utilized NASA’s open data and worked together to develop creative solutions to pressing problems in the real world. This challenge occurred on October 5th and 6th, 2024 at VIT University-AP in Amravati. More than 200 students from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu participated in the ‘NASA Space Apps Challenge 2024,’ which was a 48-hour hackathon.
Deepthi Godavarthi coordinated the event from the School of Computer Science and Engineering at VIT-AP. Participants displayed their creativity and problem-solving abilities, tackling space technology and data science challenges. The participants registered for the event and had to choose between a local and a virtual event. They created a NASA Space Apps account and formed teams to brainstorm ideas, develop solutions, create prototypes, and work tirelessly for 48 hours to develop their projects which were later on judged by expert teams.
Ten categories comprising Best Mission Concept, Best Storytelling, Best Data Use, Best Science Use, Best Technology Use, Galactic Impact, Global Connection, Local Impact, Most Inspirational, and Art and Technology were among the awards that were given out. The judges who assessed the projects and selected the best-performing teams included Swati Shukla, Nihar Ranjan Pradhan, Sachi Nandan Mohanty, Reeja S.R., Dripta De Joarder, Anindita Shome, Saroj Kumar Panigrahy, and Sabhudutta Nanda. Spaceinf's founder and CEO, Sridevi Talluri, emphasized the value of creativity and teamwork in the space sector.
