JNVST 2026: Students Get Extended Window to Apply for Class 6 Entrance Test
Aug 19, 2025 |
The Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST) is a national-level entrance examination conducted by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti for admission into Class 6 at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) across India. These schools provide free, high-quality education to talented students, particularly from rural areas. The test is designed to evaluate candidates in mental ability, arithmetic, and language skills, to identify academically gifted children and offer them equitable access to residential schooling.
The JNVST Class 6 Registration 2026 deadline has once again been extended, according to the latest update issued by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS). Students aspiring for Class 6 admission in 2026 under the Navodaya Vidyalaya admissions programme now have until 27 August 2025 to complete their online registration. Applications must be submitted exclusively through the official portals, navodaya.gov.in and cbseitms.rcil.gov.in. This is the second extension granted, following the earlier deadlines of 29 July and 13 August.
As per the JNVST admission notification, only those students born between 1 May 2014 and 31 July 2016 are eligible to apply for the Navodaya entrance examination 2026. Authorities have further clarified that students who have already studied or completed Class 5 in any previous academic year will not be permitted to register or appear for the admission test for Class 6.

The selection test for Class 6 JNV will be conducted in two phases: the first on 13 December 2025, and the second on 11 April 2026. Admit cards will be issued online in advance of each examination date. The JNV Class 6 entrance examination will assess students across three key areas: mental ability, arithmetic proficiency, and language skills. Results are expected to be released in June 2026 on the official website.
This extended timeline not only provides students and parents with greater flexibility in managing the school admission process in India 2026 but also ensures that all eligible candidates are granted a fair and equal opportunity to participate in the Navodaya Vidyalaya admissions programme.
Editor’s Note:
The extension of the JNVST Class 6 registration deadline for 2026 is a significant step, as it provides more time for eligible students and their families to complete the admission process without unnecessary stress. This development is important because the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) play a vital role in offering quality education to talented children, particularly those from rural areas, who may otherwise lack access to such opportunities. Navodaya schools have consistently stood out for their achievements. Over the years, they have produced students who excel not only in academics but also in sports, arts, and leadership. Their alumni have gone on to secure places in top universities and build successful careers in diverse fields. The residential model of education, combined with free facilities such as boarding, lodging, and textbooks, ensures that no child is left behind due to financial barriers.
Skoobuzz believes that the advantage of studying in a JNV lies in its unique environment, which promotes discipline, holistic development, and equal opportunity for students from all backgrounds. By extending the registration date, the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti has reaffirmed its commitment to making the admission process more inclusive and accessible for every deserving child.
