New AILET 2025 Criteria: NLU Delhi Makes Legal Education More Accessible

AILET 2025 Eligibility Revamped: NLU Delhi Reduces Qualifying Criteria

In the direction of making Legal Education more accessible, The National Law University (NLU) Delhi has updated the eligibility criteria for the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) 2025 and lowered the qualifying percentages for its LLM programs. For the one-year LLM (non-residential) program, candidates now need at least 50% marks in their LL.B. or equivalent degree from a recognized university.

SC/ST candidates and Persons with disabilities categories will need a minimum of 45% marks while Foreign nationals looking to enroll in the LLM program at NLU Delhi have a minimum academic record of 55% or an equivalent grade in their LL.B. degree, recognized by the UGC or the Association of Indian Universities. Additionally, foreign candidates will be assessed on their written and spoken English communication skills, followed by an interview to gauge their aptitude for the program.

Candidates who are interested in the LLM in Intellectual Property Law and Management must have completed their LL.B. or an equivalent degree from a recognized university with at least 50% marks. Final-year LL.B. students graduating in 2025 are also eligible to apply. There is no change in other eligibility requirements for both LLM programs. This new change aimed to broaden access to advanced legal studies, promoting a more diverse student body.

Application Timeline and AILET 2025 Exam Date:

Students who are eligible and interested in the BA LLB (Hons), BCom LLB (Hons), LLM, and PhD programs can apply through NLU Delhi's official website at the NationalLawUniversitydelhi.in.
The application process for AILET 2025 opened on August 1, 2024, and will remain available until November 18, 2024. The exam will be conducted on December 8, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. This entrance test is critical for law aspirants across India, covering undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD programs.

AILET 2025 Examination Pattern:

The AILET 2025 exam for the LLM program will consist of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). There will be 100 MCQs, each worth one mark, spanning various areas of law, and candidates will have 120 minutes to complete the exam. There will be a negative marking scheme for this exam and every four incorrect answers, one mark will be deducted (0.25 marks per wrong answer).

This approach encourages careful answering and aims to provide a more accurate evaluation of candidates' legal knowledge. If there is a tie in scores among candidates the university will prioritize candidates' ages, giving preference to the older applicant, if ties persist computer draw of lots will be used to make the final merit list.

Editor's Note:

The recent revision of the eligibility criteria for AILET 2025 by NLU Delhi represents a significant move towards inclusivity in legal education. By lowering the qualifying percentages for its LLM programs, the university is making advanced legal studies more accessible to a wider range of students. This change is expected to encourage more individuals to pursue a career in law, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to the development of new legal frameworks and practices.

Skoobuzz encourages students to seize this opportunity, as it will allow them to excel in the field of law and later provide a platform to showcase their talents in established law firms.
