Nottingham Triumphs at First-Ever UK PADEL Universities Championship, Secures National Title

The inaugural UK PADEL Universities Championships took place at Rocket Padel in Bristol from February 1st to 2nd, marking a big moment for university sports in the UK. The University of Nottingham made a strong impact by sending two teams to compete in the men's championship.

With 143 student padel players and a record 37 teams from across the UK, the competition was fierce. Nottingham's first team, made up of Mateo Padovani, Thomas Sheldon, Luca Fielden, and Tom Pattullo, showed great skill and determination as they advanced through the knockout rounds. In a nail-biting final, they secured the championship title with a thrilling super-tiebreak win against universities from around the country.

In the semifinals, Mateo and Thomas played brilliantly, winning 11-4, while Luca and Tom dominated their match with a 12-1 victory, sending Nottingham into the final. The final was intense, with both teams winning one match each, leading to a tense super tiebreak. Mateo and Luca held their nerve, winning the tiebreak and clinching the title for Nottingham. Team captain Luca Fielden expressed immense pride in the team's achievement, praising their focus and resilience under pressure as they triumphed over a strong Exeter side in the final. Nottingham also entered a second men's team, highlighting the growing popularity of padel at the university. This team impressed by reaching the quarter-finals, where they were defeated by Oxford Brookes.
