Dr. Harry K. Moon is now the president and CEO of Nova Southeastern University (NSU) as of January 1, succeeding Dr. George Hanbury. Previously, Dr. Moon has served as executive vice president and chief operating officer, managing administrative units and clinical healthcare operations since 2018. He integrated over 30 NSU clinics into NSU Health and led the COVID Response Team, facilitating the transition to online learning, which boosted enrollments.
Dr. Harry K. Moon, a renowned plastic and reconstructive surgeon, has been instrumental in advancing medical, research, and educational programs in South Florida for over 25 years. He is committed to maintaining high standards in university leadership at Nova Southeastern University, emphasizing his dedication to the well-being and success of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the wider communities served by NSU.
Before joining NSU, Dr. Harry K. Moon held several executive roles at Cleveland Clinic Florida, including president, chairman of the Board of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and CEO and chairman of the Board of Governors. He played a key role in establishing an integrated academic medical centre in South Florida. Moon was appointed as Dr. George Hanbury’s successor by the NSU Board of Trustees in September 2023. Charles L. Palmer, chairman of NSU’s Board of Trustees, praised Dr. Moon's decisiveness and analytical ability, expressing confidence in NSU's future as a renowned research university with an expanded healthcare portfolio under Dr. Moon's leadership.
Dr Moon, founder and president of Himmarshee Surgical Partners in Fort Lauderdale, has been a clinical associate professor of surgery at NSU’s DDrKiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine since 2008 and was appointed professor of anatomy at the DDrPallavi Patel College of Health Care Sciences in 2024. Before joining NSU, he had a long career at the Cleveland Clinic, holding roles such as head of microvascular surgery, chair of the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and chairman of the Cleveland Clinic Florida Health Plan.
Dr. Moon is a prominent civic leader, serving on boards of various Florida-based non-profits and corporations. In 2024, he was elected a Fellow ad hominem of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCSEd). A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), Dr. Moon is a published researcher and sought-after speaker. He earned his M.D. in 1978 from the University of South Alabama and completed surgery residencies at the University of Hawaii, the Medical University of South Carolina, and the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Tulane University. Dr. Harry K.
