The Department of Translation and Interpretation at the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) organized a seminar on "Disaster Management" in collaboration with the Pakistan Red Crescent (PRC) on October 21. The main objective of this seminar was to equip students with essential knowledge and practical skills for responding to emergencies and disasters.
Muhammad Ibrahim, Assistant Director of Disaster Preparedness at the Pakistan Red Crescent and a respected NUML alumnus, led the session with his team. They offered training focused on first aid techniques and disaster response strategies and demonstrated vital lifesaving procedures. Ibrahim emphasized the significance of disaster preparedness, noting that timely actions can save lives. The seminar gave students insights into different types of disasters and effective response techniques. The session fostered community engagement and social responsibility by raising awareness of first aid and disaster management, preparing students to assist others during crises.
Hina Shahab, the Head of the Department for Translation and Interpretation, underscored the importance of first aid services. She stated that community service significantly contributes to personal growth and societal welfare, emphasizing the need for individuals to adopt a humanitarian role in society. Students actively participated during the session, asking questions about first aid and disaster preparedness. The Pakistan Red Crescent plans to provide professional first-aid training to NUML students, which will culminate in certification. This certification will empower students to effectively respond to emergencies by delivering essential first aid services.
