New MoU Signed to Strengthen Academic Collaboration Between India and Italy

In a significant step towards strengthening international academic collaboration, Pondicherry University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Calabria, Italy. Established in 1972 in Rende, Italy, the University of Calabria is a leading public university known for its emphasis on research and innovation. It offers a broad range of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs across disciplines such as engineering, humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. Furthermore, the university boasts a modern campus with residential facilities, promoting an inclusive and dynamic learning environment. This partnership aims to enhance academic exchange and cooperation through student and faculty exchange programs, thereby strengthening the educational and cultural ties between the two institutions. The MoU was officially exchanged during a ceremony held at the Pondicherry University campus, with distinguished representatives from both universities in attendance. The event commenced with a welcome address by Prof. S. Victor Anandkumar, Dean of International Relations at Pondicherry University, who highlighted the university's commitment to global partnerships and noted the significance of the MoU amid the 2023 India-Italy strategic partnership. Subsequently, Dr. Kamalaveni, Associate Professor at the Centre for Women’s Studies, discussed the MoU's importance for academic exchange, research collaboration, and cultural understanding.

Prof. K. Tharanikkarasu, Vice Chancellor (i/c), emphasized the strategic importance of the agreement in strengthening bilateral ties, underscoring its role in promoting faculty and student exchanges, joint research, and interdisciplinary cooperation. Prof. Laura Corradi, Rector’s Delegate for International Relations at the University of Calabria, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration and highlighted the university’s commitment to fostering global academic connections, anticipating meaningful engagement with Pondicherry University.

Dr. Aashita, Head of the Centre for Women’s Studies, emphasized the broader impact of such partnerships in strengthening bilateral cooperation in higher education between India and the USA. She affirmed that the MoU reflects Pondicherry University's commitment to providing its students with global exposure and promoting international academic excellence. The MoU is set to enable collaborative research, knowledge-sharing, and cross-cultural academic exposure for students and faculty. The event concluded with the formal exchange of documents, solidifying the partnership.
