Students from Zilla Parishad and Municipal Schools Shine at Robotex Championship

The Robotex India Championship 2024 opened doors for students to showcase their science and technology skills that they have developed throughout the academic year. This championship was held on August 10 and 11 at the World Peace Dome, MIT-ADT University in Loni Kalbhor where around 2,000 school and college students from various states came together to present their robotics and AI skills. This two-day event featured impressive prototypes from numerous students, specifically those from Zila Parishad-run schools.

During the championship, students competed in categories such as Line Follower, Maze Solver, Robo Sumo, Entrepreneurship, and Girls Fire Fighting, with commendable performances from primary and secondary school students. These students worked on a range of innovative projects, including a waste segregator for landfills, an earthquake detection tool, a firefighter robot designed to extinguish fires, and a machine capable of solving puzzles with its ingenuity. The winning students from this competition will advance to the Robotex International Championship 2024, set to take place in Estonia this December.

The director of Robotex India and organizer of the event, Payal Rajpal noted that nearly 500 students from government schools participated in this event, which is a big achievement, this event is aimed to provide a platform to showcase skills and knowledge in science, technology, and mathematics, which students had developed throughout the school year. Moreover, students from nine Zila Parishad schools in Maharashtra had the chance to compete internationally alongside participants from over 57 countries, this demonstrates the far-reaching impact of such events in providing valuable exposure to these young innovative minds.

Anjali Byce, the Group Chief Human Resource Officer at Sterlite Technologies, indicated that their goal was to offer STEM and technology education while providing students with opportunities at both national and international levels to help bridge the digital divide. She mentioned that they had reached over 6,000 students in schools located in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Silvassa, which is a big achievement indeed.
