Olympic Research Gets a Boost: RRU’s BCORE Announces ₹75 Lakh Grant Programme

Universities specialising in national security and strategic studies play a vital role in shaping policy, fostering innovation, and promoting international cooperation. Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU), recognised as an Institution of National Importance under the Ministry of Home Affairs, exemplifies this role through a growing portfolio of initiatives aimed at strengthening India’s global and domestic leadership in security education. During a media interaction held on 23 July 2025, RRU announced a series of major programmes designed to reinforce its national and international impact. The briefing was led by Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Bimal N. Patel and attended by senior officials, including Yash Sharma (Director, SPES), Dr. Utsav Chaware (Director, BCORE), and Lt. (Dr.) Gaurav Singh Kushwah (Director, School of NCC and Police Martial Music Band). These announcements reflect the university’s commitment to excellence in education, cultural revitalisation, and global collaboration.

Among the key developments, India has successfully secured the bid to host the 2029 World Police & Fire Games (WPFG), with RRU playing a central organising role. The university is set to host eight of the sixty-three events on its campus, showcasing its world-class infrastructure. In preparation, RRU will train 500 volunteers and establish a dedicated Secretariat and Organising Committee. Furthermore, it plans to publish a comprehensive catalogue based on insights from the 2025 WPFG in Birmingham to support future planning. In a pioneering move, RRU launched the School of NCC and Police Martial Music Band, reportedly the only academic institution in India dedicated to ceremonial and martial music. This initiative aligns with the Second Panch Pran of Viksit Bharat, particularly the goal of shedding colonial legacies and reviving Indian cultural traditions. It aims to elevate the professional stature of band musicians within the country’s security forces and draws inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to promote India’s cultural identity.

Additionally, RRU’s Bharat Centre of Olympic Research and Education (BCORE) introduced India’s first Olympic Research Grants Programme, supporting Master’s and PhD students across India and South Asia. Backed by a corpus of ₹75 lakh and supported by the Gujarat State Cooperative Bank and Ahmedabad Cooperative Bank under the guidance of Shri Ajay Patel, Senior Vice President of the Indian Olympic Association, the initiative seeks to advance Olympic scholarship and research. The university also revealed plans to collaborate with Germany’s TSG Hoffenheim to establish a high-performance lab focused on security and sports research. This proposed facility will integrate advanced technologies, including psychological profiling, Helix 360 Arena simulations, and performance tracking systems. Moreover, BCORE is scheduled to host the 2nd International Olympic Research Conference from 27–30 January 2026, bringing together global experts in Olympic studies.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Bimal N. Patel stated that RRU is undergoing a transformative phase marked by international partnerships and innovative academic ventures. He emphasised that these efforts reflect the university’s dedication to excellence and its nation-first ethos. As India’s premier institution for national security, policing, cybersecurity, law, and physical education, RRU continues to shape future-ready leaders and institutions under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
