Marking a momentous occasion in its illustrious history, Shrewsbury School UK, established in 1552 by King Edward VI, celebrates its 473rd anniversary this month. To honour this significant milestone, the school’s first India campus, Shrewsbury International School India, has inaugurated the Annual Charles Darwin Lecture Series at its cutting-edge campus in Bhopal. The lecture series, which coincides with Charles Darwin's 216th birthday, pays tribute to the school’s most distinguished alumnus. This newly established lecture series promises to serve as a vital platform, recognizing individuals who have made outstanding contributions across various fields of society and further solidifying Shrewsbury's commitment to academic excellence and intellectual pursuit.
Abhishek Mohan Gupta, President of the Board of Management at Shrewsbury International School India, stated that the Annual Charles Darwin Lecture Series aims to provide a platform for leaders, innovators, and changemakers to share their insights with students. Mr Leo Winkley, Headmaster of Shrewsbury School UK, visited Shrewsbury International School India’s Bhopal campus, where he delivered the inaugural Charles Darwin Lecture, unveiled a bust of Darwin, and announced the creation of the Charles Darwin Leadership Medal to honour individuals who have made significant societal contributions. He further stated that the Annual Charles Darwin Lecture Series mentions the role of transformative thinking and aims to inspire Indian students to embrace his legacy, challenge conventions, and pursue excellence. He also emphasized the series' role in strengthening the connection between Shrewsbury School UK’s legacy and its expanding presence in India’s educational landscape.
