University of Kerala Triumphs at 38th AIU Youth Festival, SRMIST Lauded for Outstanding Hosting
SRM Institute of Science and Technology Celebrates Centennial Year of AIU with Cultural Fest

SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), Kattankulathur, hosted the 38th AIU Inter-University Youth Festival, SRM SIGARAM, marking the centennial year of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). The five-day event featured cultural and intellectual performances, with Dr T.R. Paarivendhar, Founder Chancellor of SRMIST, inaugurating the festival. In her speech, SRMIST’s Vice Chancellor Mamta Agarwal, also AIU Additional Secretary, emphasised the significance of cultural exchange and youth empowerment.
Over 21 universities from Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Kerala participated in the festival, showcasing performances such as Chenda Melam and Thiruvathirai Kali by Mahatma Gandhi University, folk dances with Para drums by Bharathidasan University, Mohiniyattam, Bharatanatyam, and martial arts by Sri Sankaracharya University, Carnatic and Malayalam songs by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, and Mayilattam and Oyilattam by Gandhigram Rural Institute, along with Theyyam and Thiruvathirai Kali by the University of Kerala.
SRMIST presented cultural performances, including Bharatanatyam, Oyilattam, and a live painting of Raja Raja Cholan, at the 38th AIU Inter-University Youth Festival, SRM SIGARAM. The festival also featured intellectual events like One Act Play, Debate, Quiz, and On-the-spot painting, exploring themes of politics, social causes, and history.
The events showcased exceptional creativity, teamwork, and dedication, leaving a lasting impression on attendees. Dr. Nisha Ashokan, the Director of Student Affairs at SRMIST, revealed that 21 universities participated in 27 competitions, judged by 23 jury members. Chief guest Mr R. Clemet Ramesh Kumar inspired students with a speech on chess champion Gukesh, encouraging excellence. The University of Kerala won the overall trophy, while SRMIST received a standing ovation for its outstanding hosting and organisational skills. The event highlighted the importance of cultural exchange, youth empowerment, and excellence, leaving a lasting impression on participants and attendees alike. The festival's success is a testament to the dedication and creativity of the students, the organizational skills of SRMIST, and the support of all participating universities.
