Study UK Alumni Awards 2025: Recognizing Global Changemakers

UK University Alumni Honored for Exceptional Achievements in India

The British Council recently organized the eleventh edition of the prestigious Study UK Alumni Awards 2025 in India, an event designed to celebrate and recognize the exceptional achievements of alumni from UK universities across various sectors. The awards highlight the significant contributions of these individuals, showcasing their work in industries, policy-making, and social impact.

Alison Barrett MBE, Country Director of the British Council in India, said this year's event once again showcased the inspiring journeys of UK alumni who are making a difference across multiple fields. She pointed out that the winners and finalists represented a diverse spectrum of talent, from advocates for groundbreaking sustainability to visionary entrepreneurs and leaders in social change. Barrett emphasized that their remarkable achievements reflected the power of higher education in nurturing global changemakers and the strength of the UK-India partnership.

Key influencers and business leaders from different industries, representatives of UK universities, and Lindy Cameron, CB OBE, the British High Commissioner to India, attended the event. Among the guests were Sparsh Ahuja, Filmmaker and Creative Producer; Sam Dalrymple, Writer, Filmmaker, and Historian; and Chiki Sarkar, Founder and publisher of Juggernaut Books.

UK university alumni from India were recognized in four categories: Business and Innovation Award, Social Action Award, Culture and Creativity Award, and Science and Sustainability Award. Prof Aashish Mathur, an alumnus of Ulster University, was recognized in the Science and Sustainability category, while Gayatri Madkekar, an alumnus of Leeds Beckett University, received the Culture and Creativity Award. Raju Kendre, from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, was honoured with the Social Action Award. Mayank Bherulal Nagori, an alumnus of the University of Nottingham, was awarded the Business and Innovation Award.

The British Council stated that the winners of the UK Alumni Awards in India would gain increased visibility, networking opportunities, and avenues for professional growth. Additionally, the finalists will have the opportunity to be selected as global winners, who will be invited to the UK for a special networking visit to engage with key stakeholders and fellow awardees. The Study UK Alumni Awards 2025 highlighted the exceptional contributions of UK alumni, strengthening the bond between the UK and India through higher education.
