AI Meets Higher Education: Symbiosis International to Open Cutting-Edge AI Institute

Advancing AI Learning: Symbiosis to Offer Specialised Undergraduate AI Degrees

India is poised to achieve new heights in AI education with the establishment of the Symbiosis Artificial Intelligence Institute (SAII), announced by Symbiosis International (Deemed University). Described as India’s first AI-focused institute within an existing university, SAII is set to drive innovation and expertise in artificial intelligence across both academic and professional domains.

Scheduled to commence operations in July 2025, the institute will introduce two undergraduate programmes aimed at equipping students with essential AI skills applicable in both theoretical and practical settings. By integrating AI education within a well-established university framework, Symbiosis International seeks to foster cutting-edge research, industry collaborations, and interdisciplinary learning, ensuring that graduates are prepared to navigate the evolving global AI landscape.

Symbiosis International has confirmed that SAII will offer a BSc and a BBA in Artificial Intelligence. The BSc programme will provide specialisations in health sciences, sports, agriculture, data science, and cybersecurity, while the BBA programme will focus on AI applications in finance, marketing, supply chains, media, and human resources. The curriculum is designed to blend core AI education with industry-specific training, ensuring that students gain a well-rounded and application-driven perspective.

The university has further outlined that SAII will operate within its existing academic framework, leveraging current faculty and infrastructure, while incorporating new technology-driven courses. This initiative aligns with the growing trend among Indian universities to expand AI-focused programmes, reflecting a global push to align education with technological advancements. With AI recognised as a priority in India’s digital and skill development initiatives, the rise of specialised AI institutes signifies the country’s commitment to shaping the future of AI expertise.

As AI continues to become integral to various industries, academic institutions are adapting their programmes to meet the evolving workforce demands. Symbiosis International has noted that while AI courses have existed previously, full-degree programmes that combine technical foundations with sector-specific applications are now becoming more prevalent. SAII’s first academic session is expected to begin in mid-2025, with admissions opening soon. However, plans for postgraduate and research programmes have not yet been announced. By establishing SAII, Symbiosis International reaffirms its role in pioneering AI education in India, ensuring that students are well-equipped to contribute to the global technological revolution.
