Enhancing Workforce Skills: Telangana to Align ITI Courses with Market Needs

New Initiatives to Ensure Comprehensive Training at ITIs Across Telangana

The Government of Telangana is taking several initiatives to empower the youth of the state. The newly established Telangana Young India Skill University will provide vocational training and allow the development of market-ready skills so that the young talent can get better job opportunities.

The Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy officially announced that the Young India Skill University will soon encompass all polytechnic colleges, Advanced Technology Centres (ATCs), and ITIs, during a review meeting with officials from the labor and employment department on 21 September. He instructed the officials to develop the necessary modalities for this integration, underscored the importance of aligning ITI courses with market demands, and called for the formation of a committee that would design appropriate syllabi for these courses.

The existing ITI in the state should have qualified principals so that students receive comprehensive training in the field and also regular monitoring and inspections of ITI colleges were recommended in the meeting. He suggested exploring the establishment of new ATCs within polytechnic colleges and requested officials to identify Assembly constituencies lacking ITIs or ATCs, emphasizing that every constituency, except Hyderabad, should have access to these institutions. The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari, Labour Department Principal Secretary Sanjay Kumar, Chief Minister’s Special Secretary Ajit Reddy, and TGIIC MD Vishnuvardhan Reddy, among others.
