UGC Announces Ayurveda Biology as New Subject for NET Exam in December 2024

UGC NET to Include Ayurveda Biology, Providing Students an Opportunity to Explore Ancient Healing Systems

Ayurveda, one of the world’s oldest healing systems with roots over 3,000 years old, will now be a subject in the UGC NET exam. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has announced the addition of Ayurveda Biology to the list of subjects for the National Eligibility Test (NET), starting from the December 2024 session. Candidates will be able to choose this new subject when they apply for the exam. This addition provides an opportunity to study an interdisciplinary field that combines the ancient science of Ayurveda with modern biological principles. The syllabus for Ayurveda Biology is available on the official UGC NET website, ugcnetonline.in.

The decision was announced following the 581st meeting of the Commission, which took place on June 25, 2024. They also introduced Disaster Management as a new subject. UGC conducts the National Eligibility Test (NET) through the National Testing Agency (NTA), with exams held twice a year once in June and again in December. On October 17, NTA declared the results for the UGC NET June 2024 exam, along with the subject-wise and category-wise cut-offs.

The inclusion of this new subject in UGC NET is a significant step towards integrating traditional medicinal knowledge with modern scientific education. By offering Ayurveda Biology, the UGC aims to attract more students to study and research this ancient science, which will provide a deeper understanding and appreciation of India’s rich cultural heritage.

Editor's Note:

More than 3,000 years of ancient medicinal knowledge in Ayurveda has always enlightened the world with its hidden yet scientifically proven principles of healing. The addition of Ayurveda Biology to the UGC NET exam highlights its growing recognition in academics.  Specifically, Ayurveda students will greatly benefit from this addition, as it provides them with new opportunities for academic recognition and career development. Students will have greater access to research grants and resources, enabling them to pursue careers in academia, healthcare, research, and alternative medicine.

Skoobuzz appreciates the UGC’s step to expand the scope of the National Eligibility Test (NET), offering students new opportunities to explore interdisciplinary subjects that blend tradition with modernity.
