University of Bath Maintains Strong National and Regional Rankings

The University of Bath has reaffirmed its position as one of the United Kingdom’s leading academic institutions, securing a place among the top 10 universities nationally and maintaining its status as the top university in the South West. According to the 2026 edition of the Complete University Guide, released on 10 June 2025, this marks the sixth consecutive year the university has ranked in the top 10 and the ninth year in a row it has held the top regional position.

Renowned for its research excellence, strong industry links, and high graduate employability, the university specialises in science, engineering, management, and social sciences. Its academic rigour and student satisfaction have consistently positioned it as a preferred choice for those seeking a world-class education. Expressing pride in the recognition, Professor Phil Taylor, President and Vice-Chancellor, described the eighth-place ranking as a strong endorsement of the university’s continued progress and excellence. He credited Bath’s consistent performance in education, student experience, and research as key factors contributing to its success. Additionally, he highlighted the sixth-place ranking for graduate prospects, emphasising the value of a Bath degree in shaping career opportunities. The Complete University Guide’s annual rankings are designed to assist prospective students in making informed decisions about higher education, particularly those considering last-minute applications or clearing options. To further support students, regional tables were released, helping applicants identify top universities close to home. In subject-specific rankings, the University of Bath performed exceptionally well, with 23 academic disciplines securing positions in the UK’s top 10. Among the top-performing subjects were Marketing (1st), Biomedical Sciences and Accounting & Finance (2nd), Business & Management Studies (3rd), Psychology (4th), Mechanical Engineering (5th), and Computer Science (6th), demonstrating the university’s broad academic excellence.

The Complete University Guide evaluates institutions using ten key measures, including entry standards, student satisfaction, research quality and intensity, academic services spending, student facilities spending, continuation rates, student-staff ratio, and graduate prospects, both in terms of immediate outcomes and long-term trajectory. This year’s rankings assessed 130 universities across the country. Professor Amanda Chetwynd, Chair of the Complete University Guide Advisory Board, extended her congratulations to the University of Bath for securing the top spot in the South West regional rankings. She acknowledged the vital role of regional universities in supporting students in achieving their academic and professional goals. Additionally, she explained that the ranking methodology is based on trusted, independent indicators, reflecting aspects most valued by students, including teaching quality, student experience, and career outcomes.
