Engaging Discussions and Esteemed Speakers Enriched the Event

Washington State University’s School of Hospitality Business Management organized Hospitality Week on Tuesday, February 27. The event featured a vibrant array of activities open to the public, headlined by the prestigious Burtenshaw Distinguished Lecture.

Starting the week off on Tuesday, a stimulating industry panel discussion took place at noon, both in-person at the CUB Senior Ballroom and virtually via Zoom. Esteemed tourism experts delved into the pivotal role of destination management organizations in driving tourism and bolstering the hospitality sector. Among the distinguished panelists were Rose Nobel, Kevin Lewis, and Jerri Barkley.

Later in the day at 4:30 p.m., the Women in Hospitality panel offered invaluable insights into career perspectives from leading professionals in the field. Presented in collaboration with ForWardThinking, this panel aimed to empower and mentor women on their career journey. Notable panelists included Liz Dahlager, Leigh Swistock, Katelyn Majcen, and Anne Shimabukuro.

Continuing the momentum on Wednesday, a beverage industry expert panel at 12:10 p.m. provided attendees with an in-depth exploration of trends and innovations shaping the beverage sector. Renowned panelists such as Don Poffenroth, Sarrah Harding, Jeremy Kyncl, and John Bryant shared their wealth of knowledge and expertise. Wednesday also featured a significant lecture on senior living hosted by the Granger Cobb Institute for Senior Living at 3:30 p.m., with Tracey Gendron shedding light on the issue of "Unmasking Ageism."

Wrapping up the week on Thursday was the highly anticipated Burtenshaw Distinguished Lecture featuring Howard Wright, chair and founder of the Seattle Hospitality Group LLC. This engaging conversation promised valuable insights into the future trajectory of the hospitality industry. With its diverse lineup of engaging discussions and esteemed speakers, Hospitality Week at Washington State University inspired and enlightened attendees from all walks of life.
