WWU Graduate Psychology Students to Offer Free Counseling Services Starting January 2025

Graduate Students of WWU Provide Free Counseling for Adults, Teens, and Children Starting in 2025

Western Washington University (WWU), founded in 1893, is the northernmost public university in the contiguous U.S. Located in Bellingham, Washington, WWU offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs. It emphasizes high-quality education, sustainability, community engagement, and experiential learning. With a diverse student body and scenic campus, WWU fosters personal and academic growth.

In response to the growing mental health challenges worldwide, graduate students from WWU’s psychology department will offer free counseling services to community members through the Counseling Training Clinic, under faculty supervision. These services will include individual counseling for adults, teens, and children. In-person counseling will be available from January to June for all age groups, while telehealth services will be offered to individuals aged 13 and older.

The graduate counselors are trained to help with a range of issues, including depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, vocational choices, grief, communication problems, and parent-child conflicts. Community members can contact the Counseling Training Clinic at 360-650-3184, and WWU students can reach the Counseling and Wellness Center at 360-650-3164.

Using the skills of the graduate psychology students to provide valuable mental health support to the community, will address the rising mental health needs in the region and also spread mental health awareness in the community.

Editor's Note:

Western Washington University's (WWU) initiative to offer free counseling services through its graduate psychology students is a commendable step in addressing the growing mental health challenges. By providing accessible support for individuals of all ages, the program helps those in need while offering students valuable hands-on experience. This effort supports individuals dealing with issues like anxiety, depression, and relationship difficulties, contributing to improved mental well-being and strengthening the community’s overall health.

Skoobuzz applauds WWU’s efforts and encourages other universities to adopt similar initiatives as this is a much-needed step to help those struggling with mental challenges silently.
