Young Boxer from Andhra Pradesh Earns Spot in International Competition

In a proud moment for Cluster University and the state of Andhra Pradesh, Y. Mahesh, a second-year B.Sc. student at Government Men’s Degree College, has been selected to represent India in the upcoming International Boxing Competitions scheduled to take place in Nepal. Mahesh will compete in the 82–85 kg weight category, marking a significant achievement in his sporting journey.

On 21 July, Mahesh met Prof. V. Venkata Basava Rao, In-Charge Vice-Chancellor of Cluster University, who formally felicitated him and extended his best wishes for the tournament. Prof. Rao encouraged Mahesh to perform with determination and bring honour to the country, the state, and the university. He remarked that while stress is natural before international events, true success lies in overcoming such pressure with focus and resilience. Adding to the occasion, Dr. Katta Venkateswarlu, Registrar of Cluster University, reiterated the institution’s commitment to promoting sports in a meaningful way. He emphasised that students should actively seize such opportunities, noting that achievements in sports can also open doors to employment through sports quota provisions.

Mahesh’s selection comes at a time when India is expanding its presence in international boxing circuits, with events such as the World Boxing Cup Finals scheduled in India later this year. His participation not only reflects personal dedication but also highlights the growing support for grassroots sports development in Indian universities.
