University of Exeter to Open First African Campus in Egypt
Prime Minister Madbouly Oversees Landmark Education Agreement

On January 19, 2025, Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly attended the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a pioneering campus for the University of Exeter in Egypt. This marks the first campus of its kind on the African continent for the British Russell Group of Universities. The event was graced by Dr Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, British Ambassador to Egypt Gareth Bailey, Dr Mustafa Refaat, Secretary of the Supreme Council of Universities, and Mr Mark Howard, Director of the British Council in Egypt, along with representatives from the British Russell Group of Universities and the University of Exeter.
The MoU was signed by Dr Mohamed Diaa Zein El-Abidin, President of Ain Shams University, Dr Essam El-Kurdi, Executive Director of the University Support and Development Authority, and DDrLisa Roberts, President of the University of Exeter. Dr. Madbouly emphasized that this initiative is part of Egypt's ambitious vision to enhance academic cooperation with prestigious global institutions. The goal is to expand opportunities for high-level education for Egyptian students, equipping them to compete in both local and international labour markets.
