Tsinghua University Opens Doors to Vietnam National University Students

Vietnamese Universities Expand Partnerships with China's Leading Institution

Vietnam National University in Hanoi has introduced an exceptional opportunity for its students to expand their academic experiences through a new exchange program at Tsinghua University in China. As one of Asia's most prestigious institutions, Tsinghua offers selected students the chance to study for a semester with tuition fully waived. This marks the first collaboration of its kind for students from Vietnam National University-Hanoi, signalling an important step in fostering international academic exchange.

Tsinghua University enjoys a globally esteemed reputation. In the 2025 Times Higher Education (THE) World Reputation Rankings, it is ranked eighth worldwide, surpassing notable institutions such as Yale University and the University of Tokyo. Moreover, Tsinghua is positioned 12th globally in the 2025 THE World University Rankings, making it the highest-ranked Chinese university, followed by Peking University. With exchange agreements already established with approximately 200 universities worldwide, Tsinghua continues to solidify its standing as a leading international academic institution.

The program, open to students in their second year or beyond, requires applicants to demonstrate a strong academic record along with foreign language proficiency. Specifically, an IELTS score of 7.0 for English or at least an HSK 5 level for Chinese is mandatory. Application deadlines are April 30 for the fall semester (September 2025–January 2026) and November 30 for the spring semester (February–June 2026).

While the program offers a tuition waiver, selected students will need to cover their living expenses, insurance, and visa fees. This initiative is part of a broader cooperation agreement signed on March 2 between Vietnam National University (VNU) in Hanoi and Tsinghua University. Similar agreements have also been reached with Vietnam National University in Ho Chi Minh City and Vietnam's National Economics University, further expanding opportunities for Vietnamese students. This collaborative effort underscores the growing importance of international academic exchanges in providing students with valuable global exposure and advancing cross-border education partnerships.
