Southampton Delhi Announces Scholarships for Cambridge Students in India
May 12, 2025 |
In a significant move to enhance international education opportunities for Indian students, the University of Southampton Delhi has launched the Cambridge Scholarship Awards. Announced on 8 May, this initiative was developed in collaboration with the International Education group of Cambridge University Press & Assessment, the international education division of the University of Cambridge. Through this partnership, the university aims to expand access to globally recognised qualifications while providing financial support to deserving candidates, thereby strengthening India’s presence in the global academic landscape.
As part of the scholarship programme, the university will grant up to four exclusive awards to Cambridge A-Level graduates in India for the August 2025 intake. Each recipient will receive a tuition fee contribution of ₹2.20 lakh for the 2025–2026 academic year, with selection based on academic performance and A-Level results, reviewed by the university’s Scholarship Committee. To facilitate the application process, Cambridge students applying between 1 May and 31 May 2025 will benefit from a waiver of application fees. Additionally, a specialised evaluation team will oversee submissions from Cambridge-affiliated applicants to streamline admissions.
Dr Vishal Talwar, COO of the University of Southampton Delhi, stated that Cambridge A-Level graduates possess strong academic foundations and a global perspective, making them highly suitable candidates. He emphasised that the initiative is designed to equip future leaders with the essential skills and resources required for success on an international scale.
Meanwhile, Vinay Sharma, Senior Vice President of International Education for South Asia at Cambridge, highlighted that the programme offers Indian Cambridge students direct access to world-class education without necessitating overseas study. He pointed out that the collaboration reflects Cambridge’s global influence, providing a local academic pathway that prepares students for international success.
The International Education group, responsible for overseeing qualifications such as Cambridge IGCSE, AS, and A Levels, currently operates across 810 schools in India. Additionally, the University of Southampton has established itself as a leading institution, ranking among the Top 125 globally for employability in the QS Graduate Employability Rankings 2022. With the introduction of the Cambridge Scholarship Awards, the University of Southampton, Delhi and Cambridge University Press & Assessment are paving the way for Indian students to access premier education while fostering future leaders in a rapidly evolving academic environment.
Editor’s Note:
The introduction of the Cambridge Scholarship Awards is a gateway to expanding educational opportunities for Indian students. By collaborating with Cambridge University Press & Assessment, the University of Southampton Delhi is not just offering financial aid—it is actively shaping a new pathway for ambitious learners to gain internationally recognised qualifications. This initiative acknowledges that talent transcends borders, making global education more accessible for Indian students. While scholarships and fee waivers ease financial barriers, true progress requires universities to offer mentorship, research opportunities, and practical exposure. Sustainable commitment beyond financial aid is essential to bridging the gap between aspiration and achievement.
Skoobuzz emphasises that this partnership is a step in the right direction—an investment in future leaders, thinkers, and innovators who will shape industries and societies. The question is whether other institutions will follow this lead and truly democratise global education, making it accessible to deserving students worldwide.
