CBSE Affiliation with SGFI to Elevate School Sports; Misuse by Other Entity Highlighted

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has widened its horizon by being officially affiliated with the School Games Federation of India (SGFI) as of July 8, 2024. This affiliation marks a significant development, as from the 2024-25 academic year, the winners of the CBSE National Games will have the opportunity to compete in the SGFI National School Games. This integration aims to enhance the sports opportunities for students across CBSE-affiliated schools. According to the press release issued by CBSE, the affiliation with SGFI will enable CBSE's top athletes to participate in SGFI's annual National School Games, aligning with the SGFI's objectives to promote and organize school sports competitions.

The CBSE has announced that it has recently noticed an organization named CBSE Board School Games Welfare Society (CBSE-WSO) based in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, use the CBSE name to organize sports events and participate in competitions organized by SGFI and other sports bodies. Unaware many CBSE-affiliated schools participated in events run by this organization, to clarify this matter Board announced that it has no association in any manner with the CBSE Board School Games Welfare Society and emphasized that this information is being shared in the public interest.

In a recent official press note, the CBSE advised schools, through Circular No. Acad-54/2024 dated July 11, 2024, to not associate with or participate in any sports events organized by the CBSE Board School Games Welfare Society (CBSE-WSO) or similar organizations, as these entities are not affiliated with CBSE. The Board warned that schools engaging with such organizations could face disciplinary action. Additionally, CBSE-affiliated schools that receive communication from this or similar organizations are encouraged to verify the authenticity of such information by consulting the CBSE website at https://cbseit.in/cbse/2023/sports.

Editor’s Note:

In a significant development for school sports across the country, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially affiliated with the School Games Federation of India (SGFI), effective July 8, 2024. This new affiliation will see the winners of the CBSE National Games participating in SGFI National School Games from the 2024-25 academic year onwards. This move is expected to enhance opportunities for student-athletes and streamline the integration of school sports activities on a national level. However, it has also come to light that an unrelated organization, the CBSE Board School Games Welfare Society, has been misusing the CBSE name for organizing sports events. The CBSE has clarified its non-association with this entity and urged schools to avoid involvement with such organizations.

Skoobuzz appreciates the step taken by CBSE as our country needs more young athletes to take part in future national and international competitions.
