Coimbra Group Offers Unique Research Opportunities for Latin American Universities

Opportunity for Latin American Scholars to Research in Europe – Apply by March 31, 2025

The Coimbra Group is pleased to announce that applications are now open for the Coimbra Group Scholarship Programme 2025/2026. This programme is designed to support young professors and researchers from Latin American universities, offering them an opportunity to advance their academic careers and engage in international collaboration. Scholars will have access to world-class research facilities, mentorship from renowned experts, and the chance to build lasting academic connections across Europe.

Launched in January 2004, the programme offers short-term visits, typically lasting 1 to 3 months, to researchers from Latin American higher education institutions. The primary goal is to support research aligned with the applicant's work at their home institution while fostering academic and research ties in Europe. The application deadline is March 31, 2025. The scholarships are funded by Coimbra Group member universities, while the Coimbra Group Office will manage the application process.

Eligibility:

• Applicants must be nationals of and currently reside in a Latin American country. Those already residing or studying in Europe are not eligible.
• Applicants must hold a university degree or equivalent.
• Applicants must be affiliated with a Latin American university recognized by the country's government as a professor or researcher.
• Applicants must be born after January 1, 1985.

Selection Criteria:

The selection will be based on the applicant's academic expertise, experience as a professor/researcher, and curriculum vitae. The alignment of the proposed programme with the applicant's academic background will be assessed, along with the potential benefits of the research visit for both the applicant's career and the participating institutions.

Applications should be submitted in English. However, submissions in Spanish will be accepted for the Universities of Granada, Salamanca, and Barcelona, and in Portuguese for the University of Coimbra. No other language exceptions will be considered.
