On January 28, the Central University of Kashmir announced that it would host the All India Inter-University Winter Sports event in the scenic Gulmarg on January 30-31. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. A. Ravinder Nath, stated that the event would see the participation of 27 universities, featuring 169 athletes, coaches, and managers. Sponsored by the Association of Indian Universities, this event is seen as an important step in enhancing Kashmir's reputation as a winter sports destination, while also boosting the university's national profile and promoting the region's winter tourism.
In addition to discussing the sports event, Prof. Nath highlighted the upcoming Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for postgraduate programs, emphasizing the approaching application deadline of February 1. He urged students to prepare well for the exam, which provides access to 48 central universities across India. The conference also focused on the reforms introduced under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which aims to create a more learner-centric education system. Under the university's new motto, "Educate, Enrich, Empower," the institution plans to prioritize the preparation of students for higher education, employment, and entrepreneurship.
Furthermore, Prof. Nath provided updates on the university’s ongoing infrastructure developments, including the construction of new hostels and academic buildings. These projects are expected to be completed within the next 24 to 36 months. Additionally, the Vice Chancellor introduced nine new academic best practices, which will soon be shared with faculty and stakeholders. He expressed hope that these initiatives would play a significant role in Kashmir's development as a hub for both winter sports and education. It is inspiring to see how universities are actively contributing to regional development by blending education with sports and infrastructure growth. Such initiatives not only enhance academic opportunities but also promote community engagement and economic progress in the region.
