New Rule: Delhi Government Requires Approval for Private School Fee

A new rule was announced by the government of Delhi has implemented a new rule for private schools that are allotted lands by the government which states that schools can not unreasonably increase fees whenever it pleases them and must get approval from the Directorate of Education of the government for the same. This regulation makes sure that any adjustments to fees are authorized by education authorities and attempts to prevent schools from raising costs at random. This regulation is based on Section 17 of the Delhi School Education Act and Rules (DSEAR) of 1973, which forbids schools from raising fees without the Director of Education's approval.

The regulations state that these schools must follow the recent pricing schedule approved by the directorate of education or the fee information that they have provided. This regulation is based on Section 17 of the Delhi School Education Act and Rules (DSEAR) of 1973, which forbids schools from raising fees without the Director of Education's approval. Principals and managers of these private schools have been asked to submit their proposal for fee increase online by the directorate of education and the submission for the current academic year starts on April 2024 and ends on April 15, 2024, giving schools a window of 15 days.

The schools are advised to keep in mind that the proposal should be comprehensive as incomplete submissions will not be accepted and posted and they must submit the proposal to be able to raise the fees. After the submission, the directorate of education will thoroughly review the proposals to make sure they meet all the guidelines and regulations. To ease the process, the Directorate of Education will also provide an online module on their website where schools can upload their documents. This module will be found under the "school plan -> fee structure -> proposal for fee hike 2024-25" section on the website, accessible with school login details.

The idea behind this new rule is to make education more accessible and affordable ]without any unjust, particularly for the schools that are on government land. The government wants since they want to make sure that private schools maintain their independence while charging reasonable and fair fees, benefiting the general public. that only benefit the general public.

Editor’s Note:

The directorate of education’s decision is an appreciable step and will also decrease the school dropout rates since the financial pinch on the parents will be less. The step not only protects the interest of the parents and students by asking for their consent before increasing the fees but also shows the government’s commitment to improving the education sector and taking a proactive approach to address the concerns.
