Delhi's Coaching Centers to Face New Regulations Under Upcoming Law, Atishi Reveals.

Regulating Fees: "Minister Atishi Announces Legislative Overhaul for Delhi Coaching Centers"

Delhi has witnessed an unprecedented surge in coaching centers, particularly in areas like Old Rajinder Nagar, where the actual population is nearly 45,000 including all the students preparing for competitive exams such as UPSC, NEET, and JEE. These burgeoning coaching centers charge ₹50,000 to ₹1.5 lakh minimum fees, burdening students financially as well as pressuring them mentally. In a significant attempt to regulate this booming educational industry, the Delhi government recently disclosed plans to enact legislation that will regulate these coaching centers around the capital.

On July 31, Delhi Cabinet Minister Atishi announced that a new law will address various issues related to coaching centers, including quality, accountability, and student welfare. This step was followed after the tragic drowning of three IAS candidates in a basement flood at an institute in Old Rajinder Nagar. The legislation will cover infrastructure, teacher qualifications, fee structures, and misleading advertisements, with public feedback considered.

Atishi also revealed that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has acted against 30 coaching centers using basements unlawfully and issued notices to 200 more. The magisterial probe report on the incident is expected within six days.
He further announced that strict action will be taken against any officers found responsible for the Old Rajinder Nagar incident, attributed to the illegal use of building spaces. The ongoing probe will examine which officer ignored a complaint sent to the MCD by an IAS aspirant about the unlawful use of the basement at Rau's IAS Study Circle. The magisterial inquiry will determine the officer in charge of the grievances portal and why the complaint was neglected. A civil services aspirant from Gwalior had reported submitting a complaint and sending reminders on July 15 and 22, but no action was taken.

Editor’s Note:
The action taken by the government to regulate these coaching institutes will change the scenario of old Rajendra Nagar and distress the students. By defining standards and a structured regulatory framework, the government helps to improve the quality of education provided and ensures that coaching centers positively contribute to student’s academic advancement.
The Delhi government's decision to regulate coaching institutions is a proactive step toward addressing the sector's difficulties. The government hopes to balance the demands of students and the coaching business by forming a dedicated committee and introducing new regulations, resulting in a more balanced and effective educational landscape in the capital.

Skoobuzz hopes that defining set boundaries by law will surely limit the coaching fees as well as regulate the rapidly spreading coaching business.
