Financial Assistance for SC/ST Students: IIT Tirupati's Commitment to Inclusion

Scholarships provide more than just financial assistance; they offer students the hope and opportunity to pursue their dreams without financial worries. IIT Tirupati, established in 2015, is one of the 23 Indian Institutes of Technology in the country, and in recent years, the institute has consistently ranked among the top 100 engineering institutions in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) published by the Education Ministry, IIT Tirupati holds the 61st position. The university offers scholarships to deserving students, including college fee concessions and direct benefit transfers to students' bank accounts.
The various scholarships for undergraduate and postgraduate students which have specified eligibility criteria are mentioned below:
- Merit-cum-Means Scholarship:- This scholarship is for undergraduate students pursuing B Tech, this scholarship is offered to 25 percent of the admitted students, but their parents' annual income does not exceed Rs 4,50,000. This scholarship grants Rs 1,000 per month and tuition fee exemptions, contingent upon maintaining a minimum GPA of 5.0 each semester.
- The Institute Free Studentship: This is available for 10 percent of admitted students, also requiring a GPA of 5.0 for renewal, which exempts them from paying tuition fees. In this scholarship, students' parental income should not exceed Rs 4,50,000.
- The Institute SC/ST Scholarship: This scholarship is available to students with parental incomes not exceeding Rs 4,50,000, and includes a rebate of Rs 8,000 on mess charges, exemption from hostel seat rent, and a monthly pocket allowance of Rs 250. To renew the scholarship, students must maintain a minimum GPA of 5.0 in the preceding semester.
IIT-Tirupati offers scholarships for PG students also to support their studies which are as follows:
1. The Merit-cum-Means Scholarship: This is awarded to students based on their performance at the end of the first semester, with 25 percent of admitted students or 25 percent of the sanctioned strength whichever is lower eligible for the scholarship during the first two semesters of the program. Renewal for the third and fourth semesters depends on their performance in the second and third semesters. Recipients of this scholarship receive Rs 1,000 per month along with an exemption from tuition fees.
2. The Free Studentship: This scholarship is awarded with eligibility extending to 10 percent of admitted students or 10 percent of the sanctioned strength, whichever is lower, during the first two semesters of the program. For renewal in the third and fourth semesters, students must demonstrate satisfactory performance in the second and third semesters. Recipients of the Free Studentship benefit from a complete exemption from tuition fees for each semester.
3. The 50 percent Free Studentship: This scholarship is available to students who achieve a minimum CGPA of 6.5 and have a parental income of less than Rs 4,50,000 per annum. This scholarship offers a 50 percent waiver on tuition fees, providing significant financial relief for eligible students while supporting their academic pursuits.
