Education for Service: KIIT Partners with Navy, Coast Guard to Support Soldiers’ Families

In a commendable move towards supporting the families of India’s defence personnel, KIIT-DU has formalised partnerships with the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard, along with their respective welfare organisations, to enhance educational opportunities for their children. This initiative reflects a broader commitment to social responsibility and recognises the sacrifices made by those who serve the nation by facilitating access to quality higher education.

KIIT-DU has signed separate Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Indian Navy and the Navy Wives Welfare Association (NWWA), as well as with the Indian Coast Guard and the Coast Guard Welfare and Wellness Association (CGWWA). These agreements aim to offer scholarships, reserved seats, and greater educational access for the dependents of defence personnel. According to the MoU with the Indian Navy, KIIT will grant a 10 per cent tuition fee waiver for two children of deceased Navy personnel enrolled in the MBBS programme. Furthermore, five seats each have been reserved for naval families in the BDS and B.Sc Nursing courses, along with four seats in B.Tech programmes focusing on Computer Science and related branches.

Additionally, an unlimited number of seats in other non-medical courses have been made available to naval families, with a 50 per cent scholarship on institutional fees. The agreement was officially signed by Prof. Saranjit Singh, Vice Chancellor of KIIT-DU, Shashi Tripathi, President of NWWA, and Commodore SM Urooj Athar, Naval Education Officer. In a parallel effort, KIIT-DU has entered into a similar MoU with the Indian Coast Guard and CGWWA, aimed at promoting academic cooperation, research, and capacity building. This arrangement reserves two MBBS seats, five BDS seats, and five B.Sc Nursing seats for the children of Coast Guard personnel, alongside a 10 per cent fee scholarship. Moreover, four B.Tech seats in Computer Science and allied disciplines have been set aside. Similar to the Navy agreement, all other non-medical programmes are accessible to Coast Guard families with a 50 per cent fee scholarship.

These MoUs exemplify KIIT’s dedication to honouring national service through education. Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder of KIIT and KISS, has praised the initiative as a sincere acknowledgement of the defence forces’ sacrifices. He emphasised that education remains the most potent means of empowerment and expressed pride in KIIT’s role in supporting the families of those who safeguard the nation.KIIT’s collaboration with defence organisations honours the commitment of India’s service members and reinforces education as a vital instrument of social upliftment.

Editor’s Note

KIIT-DU's support for the families of Indian Navy and Coast Guard personnel through educational opportunities is a timely and praiseworthy initiative, highlighting the growing importance of academia-public service partnerships. The university's commitment to nation-building extends beyond its campus through scholarships, reserved program seats, and inclusive access to quality higher education, establishing a strong example for other institutions to follow. KIIT-DU's endeavour to extend educational opportunities to the offspring of defence personnel transcends mere philanthropy. It emphasises the indispensable function of education in communal empowerment and acknowledges the dedication and sacrifice of military members, who are held in high esteem within the nation. This concrete assistance manifests both appreciation and a progressive outlook, guaranteeing that these worthy children encounter opportunities rather than impediments in realising their ambitions.

Skoobuzz highlights that the action by KIIT-DU illustrates how education authentically venerates service, by supplying substantial access and opportunities.
