NEET-UG 2024 Results: Record-Breaking Scores and Allegations of Irregularities Raise Concerns.

NEET UG 2024 Results Released: 67 Rajasthan Students Achieve 99.99 Percentile Despite Irregularities and High Cutoffs

The National Testing Agency (NTA) National Testing Agency (NTA), a testing organisation to conducts entrance examinations for admission/fellowship in higher educational institutions, announced the NEET-UG 2024 results on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, on their official website. 67 candidates from Rajasthan secured a record-breaking 99.99 percentile in the exam.

NEET UG 2024 is one of the toughest exams in India, 16-17 Lakh students compete for 390 government colleges throughout the country every year. This year NEET UG 2024 exam was conducted on 5th May, across 4,750 centers in 571 cities, including 14 overseas locations accommodating 24 lakh candidates. Following the result publication, students voiced apprehensions regarding alleged irregularities and potential paper leaks. Students also complained about inflated cutoff marks, particularly as certain candidates garnered exceptionally high scores like 718 and 719, seemingly surpassing the expected limits set by the exam's marking scheme. Such allegations by students raised a question about the marking scheme of NTA.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) took steps to address these issues by awarding compensatory marks to candidates who experienced time loss during the examination.

Moreover, discrepancies in the prescribed textbooks resulted in score adjustments for certain students, leading to an increase in the number of high achievers. In response to the raised concerns regarding the exam's administration and irregularities, the NTA provided explanations.

Anand Prakash, Co-Founder of Vedantu, commented on the NEET exam results for this year, highlighting the significant discrepancies observed. While typically only 3-4 students achieve a perfect score of 720/720, this year saw 69 students attaining full marks. The revelation of multiple students securing top ranks from the same examination centers added to the scrutiny, as evident in the NTA's Top 100 Rank list.

NTA refused all allegations related to paper leaks and any discrepancies in the exam, but still, some questions are unanswered like the grace marks that were provided to some 1500 students without clear criteria. Last year an applicant with a score of 620 could easily get into a government college but this year score of 660 is required. The NTA received 13,373 challenges to the provisional answer key for the Physics question due to discrepancies between old and new editions of the NCERT textbooks, yet processed and announced results for approximately 23 lakh candidates within 30 days. Observing all the above points it seems there are irregularities and discrepancies which put the future of students at stake.

Editor’s Note:

NTA successfully conducts the NEET examination every year but this year the result has put a question mark on the examination system. Students have raised concerns and allegations of cutoff marks, waste of time during the exam, Textbook discrepancies, paper leaks, and grace marks for some students only. Although NTA refused all these allegations and reviewed the grievances based on factual reports and CCTV footage from the affected exam centers. Skoobuzz applauds the courage of students to raise their voices against the irregularities in exams as well as trust in the decision of NTA to do justice towards students and clear all irregularities so the future aspirants don't lose hope and prepare well for their dreams.
