Commission Clarifies: No New Medical Colleges or Seat Expansions Approved
NMC Denies News of New Colleges and More Seats
Apr 16, 2024 |
The National Medical Commission (NMC) announced that it has not sanctioned any new medical colleges or increased the number of seats for undergraduate or postgraduate medical courses for the batch of 2024-25. They have rejected reports which suggested otherwise, and labeled them as ‘fake news’.
In a public notice, the Commission said that this academic year's applications are still being processed. Any decision on this matter will be uploaded on their website immediately, whenever the decision is taken.
The Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB), NMC is responsible for granting permission for new medical colleges and increasing the number of seats. They have received 112 applications for the establishment of new medical colleges in 2024-2025, apart from the 58 applications for the increase of MBBS seats in existing medical colleges. However, they have not granted permission for any of these applications.
The Commission has requested all the stakeholders and the general public not to pay attention to the misleading and baseless news regarding new medical colleges and the increase in seats published in print/electronic media.
Editor’s Note:
The National Medical Commission has debunked the news floating around print and electronic media regarding the opening of new medical colleges and increasing the number of seats in UG and PG courses. The news might ignite false hope for the public and lead to unnecessary stress later on and Skoobuzz would encourage readers to verify such news before rooting for false claims that may be presented.
