Global Talent Sought for Canada’s Prestigious Pearson Undergraduate Award

Lester B. Pearson International Scholarship is widely recognised as one of Canada’s most prestigious and generously funded programmes for international undergraduate students. Administered by the University of Toronto, it reflects a strong institutional commitment to global academic excellence and diversity. In 2024, the scholarship provided over $12 million in funding, supporting 37 scholars from a remarkably diverse applicant pool representing 188 countries.

The University has officially launched the 2026 competition, inviting applications from high-achieving students who demonstrate exceptional academic performance, creativity, and leadership, particularly those who have made a meaningful impact within their schools and communities. The scholarship offers a comprehensive financial package covering tuition, books, incidental fees, and full residence support for four years. It is tenable exclusively for first-entry undergraduate programmes at the University of Toronto.

To be eligible, applicants must be international students requiring a study permit, currently in their final year of secondary school in 2025–2026, or have graduated no earlier than June 2025, and must commence studies at the University in September 2026. Prospective candidates are advised to consult their guidance counsellor, principal, or head of school to confirm whether their institution is eligible to nominate students. Schools that have previously participated will receive access to the nomination form from 1 July 2025, with a submission deadline of 10 October 2025. Institutions not yet involved may apply to join the programme.

In parallel, students must apply to at least one undergraduate programme at the University of Toronto by 17 October 2025 to remain eligible. Although applicants may select up to three areas of study, the scholarship, if awarded, will apply only to the top-choice programme listed at the time of decision. Once nominated, students will receive a private link to the scholarship application form, which may be completed only after submitting their admission application. The final deadline to submit the completed scholarship application and all required documentation is 7 November 2025.

Each year, approximately 37 students are selected as Pearson Scholars, joining a global cohort of individuals committed to academic excellence and social impact. The University has cautioned applicants against fraudulent communications and reiterated that it does not engage recruitment agents; all applications must be submitted directly through official channels. This scholarship continues to serve as a gateway for outstanding international students to pursue transformative education in one of the world’s most inclusive and multicultural academic environments.
