University of Sheffield Announces 75 International Postgraduate Merit Scholarships for 2025

International Students: Secure a £10,000 Scholarship for Postgraduate Studies at Sheffield University

The University of Sheffield, UK, has announced the availability of 75 International Postgraduate Taught Merit Scholarships for the academic year 2025. These scholarships, each valued at £10,000, will be applied to the original tuition fee for a postgraduate taught programme commencing in September 2025.

The scholarships are designed to attract new international students who meet the eligibility criteria, which include holding an offer to study at the University of Sheffield. Applicants need to ensure that their programme starts in autumn 2025. The application deadline for these scholarships is May 12, 2025. Selected applicants will be required to confirm their acceptance of the scholarship and firm their offer by a specified date.

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must meet certain criteria.

  • Distance learning courses are not eligible, and applicants must receive an offer for a full-time, on-campus course at the University of Sheffield.
  • They must be self-funded and required to pay the overseas tuition fee.
  • Sponsored students are not eligible for the scholarship.
  • MArch programmes, considered postgraduate taught programmes, are not eligible for undergraduate scholarships.
  • Students pursuing a Masters/Integrated PhD programme can only receive the scholarship for the Masters component of the programme.
  • The scholarship does not apply to postgraduate courses with higher clinical fees, such as DClinDent in Orthodontics, Endodontics, Paediatric Dentistry, Periodontics, and Prosthodontics, as well as MMedSci in Diagnostic Oral Pathology.

The University of Sheffield's selection panel, consisting of senior staff members, will evaluate applicants based on several criteria. They will be looking for examples of achievements that demonstrate excellence and initiative in educational, voluntary, or professional areas. Applicants must also demonstrate how these achievements are relevant to the course they have applied for at the University of Sheffield, and how they align with their future goals. A strong academic profile is essential for consideration.

It is important to note that master’s programmes shared between the University of Sheffield and a partner institution are not eligible for this scholarship. Additionally, Crossways courses and Erasmus Mundus courses are also ineligible for the merit scholarship. Overall, the University of Sheffield’s International Postgraduate Taught Merit Scholarships offer a valuable opportunity for eligible self-funded international students.
