Lawyers Protest Outside Varanasi School Following Class 12 Student’s Death

The tragic incident in Varanasi has left the community in shock, as authorities reported the alleged shooting of Hemant Singh, a Class 12 student, by Ravi Singh, the manager and director of Gyandeep Public School. The event unfolded on Tuesday afternoon in the Khushhal Nagar area, highlighting serious lapses in safety within private school environments. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Pramod Kumar, Ravi Singh was promptly arrested, and the weapon used in the crime was recovered.

CCTV footage revealed disturbing details, showing Ravi Singh and two other individuals escorting Hemant into a room within the compound of Singh’s residence, where the fatal shooting occurred. Hemant, the son of a lawyer, sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was rushed to a private hospital. Subsequently, he was referred to the trauma centre at Banaras Hindu University (BHU), where doctors declared him dead. Meanwhile, police have identified the other individuals involved and are actively working to apprehend them.

Initial investigations indicate that Ravi Singh summoned Hemant to discuss ongoing issues involving a school teacher, during which the tragic incident occured. Forensic teams have collected crucial evidence from the scene, including footage from the CCTV network’s DVR. The aftermath of the incident sparked outrage among the legal fraternity, with a group of lawyers staging a protest outside the school premises to express their anger over the killing. The protest was later called off after authorities assured them of swift action against the suspects.
